BLOWN KICKER 12" l7???

I recently installed a 12" Kicker L7 solo-baric (4ohm) in a ported box, with a zx750.1 watt kicker amp, a tsunami 1.5 farad capacitor, and a 4 gauge tsunami wiring kit to my 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. We installed everything ourselves, we did a ground wire to the metal seatbelt part in the back of the car, and then a car audio dealer suggested putting another ground in from the negative battery terminal to the positive. Everything was working fine, the sub was pretty much brand new, I heard it before I bought it. I hooked it up in my car 2 weeks ago, it sounded fine, but wasn't pounding like I was told that it would. I don't find it loud at all, and find that it sounds weird. But I may just not have the settings right yet, and I haven't been playing it too loud. But today, it just quit on me, it gives a little "umph" but its a weird sound and really quiet, did I blow my sub woofer? I don't see how this could be possible, when it has not even been played loud. Anyone have any ideas on what to do, that would be helpful! thanks

Is it just me or is something really wrong with this statement? I did have a very long day today, but man oh man this just ain't right.:stroke:

Can you please elaborate a little on this particular connection?

Ya I have to agree with "The Wizard" that statement alone will cause many problems and you'll have an exploding battery real soon..

okay sorry about that, that was my mistake...i meant ground a wire from the negative battery terminal to a metal object under the hood, just like i did to the other one going under the seat on a seatbelt

so why today did my sub blow smoke, and sounds weird and very quiet????

madramzi24 03-26-2008 05:57 PM

no one can tell me if it is blown?? this is my first sub that i have had, and i have never seen one blow..and ive heard everything from kicker, JL, mtx, bravox, etc

If you push on the center of the cone, and it moves freely without scraping.. it's not blown...

i just went out and pushed on it..it was making a weird nice when i pressed on it.

so it is blown, but can anyone please tell me why?? so if i buy another one of these or if i am just going to go with a 12" JL W7 i will know what not to do lol

i just took the sub out of the box now

Haunz 03-26-2008 07:21 PM

the sub could easilly be defective and have a broken glue joint... that is my guess...

I'd call kicker and bitch... MAYBE you can get a new one...
