Bmw ???

So i went to the dealership just to get my electrical checked to see if im doing anything wrong or not. I asked them about the voltage my car is giving to the amp and they said that the electrical on the M5's is so good that you can run 3000 RMS and it wont go below 12 volts. Currently my amp is doing between 1800-1900 RMS and no matter what, the voltage stays around 14 Volts.

I asked them about the wires coming from the alternator to the battery , this guy just took my seat out and showed me this BIG A** wire and asked me in a sarcastic way that do you really want to add a new wire instead of this.

Question is that is it safe to run 3000 RMS on this car in the future and by the way i was wrong the stock alternator is 140 Amps.

There are several things wrong here, but I will point out the obvious. The voltage has nothing to do with BMW amazing electrical. It is up to an alternator, and you battery capacity. When your amp is doing the actual 1900 watts on your factory alt and your single battery you will get drops below 12V guaranteed, as the alt cant keep up with that much demand, and as your battery drains the voltage drops - simple physics.

let me point out another obvious thing - the guy at the BMW is a dumb ass.

But he showed me , he turned on the car and brought a volt meter to show me and he's like look at it . It's giving 13.96 Volts right now and then he told me to turn up the volume and it was still around 13.9 ??? But i think Yuli is right , he could be a dumb ass LOL

And was the heater running, lights on, full output for prolonged use to drain the battery or was it a Kodak moment?

King-Kong 11-23-2008 04:46 PM

my heater is always on lol , lights are always on and there angel eyes which drain alot of power too. I dont know i didnt trust that guy but seriously i dont know whats up with this car but somehow its putting up with all the electrical needs lol. Just hope i could sell it before it goes kaboom ( god forbid lol )

My 7 series had the same size wiring right from factory also... in fact that car had factory 4 gauge on EVERYTHING. I can see his point there re: the factory wiring. 3,000 RMS is a stretch though. I wouldn't buy that for a minute. I'd stay with what you got. What he didn't mention is what happens to the car's electronics when it starts going below required voltage...
