Bought an Alpine 7909 cd player

I found someone who had a pretty mint Alpine 7909 unit..
No box, but it does come with owner's manual. It was serviced by Tweeter in 2003 due to not playing CDs. After that It was used for a few months, then
about a year ago he connected it on his bench and there was no audio output.

Just wondering what does it mean when theres no audio output ?
I hear its the DC/DC Converter, which is an easy cheap $40 fix.

btw, why does it look like it has 4 preouts ??

Also, it comes with no trim ring and cage, so if anyone has one, please lemme know.

I see 3 sets of pre-outs and the last set is clearly marked "to changer". You will have front, rear, and sub outs there.

Someone on another forum told me it has front, rear, changer, and line in....
I will see once I get the cd player next week..

I'm so confused, we can clearly see that the rca's are labeled AND you have a picture of the owners manual, what exactly are you asking?

No sub out. And it was on this forum but I'm not sure about the line in.. It's been a while since I was lucky enough to sell mine off.

Was the 7909 a shuttle deck, or fixed? If it was a shuttle deck then you will need the correct cage that has the plug in the back of it for the harness, unless I am mistaken......

it looks nice

The 7909 was a pullout but Alpine offered a kit back then to make a pullout at permanent mount.

Is therem a reason why you would purchase such an old deck???:smokin:

Lemme know if anyone can get a new one !

YES. They said they cant fix it...
but I took it to S&S electronics to get a second opinion

oldschoolADS 01-12-2009 06:55 PM

yeah good luck with that...i got your mail on talkaudio as well. That looks like a first generation pull out conversion as opposed to the late 90s limited run anniversary decks with copper chassis. Hopefully someone will chime in with a great shop you can work with. Also contact SUX 2BU here as he is also an old school Alpine fan.

Alpine 7909, 3331, 5959 - eBay (item 250354028709 end time Jan-14-09 20:10:07 PST)

Rob 01-12-2009 07:41 PM

I saw that. I actually have Alpine 7909 bookmarked in my favorites :)

Alpine 7909, Electronics, CD Changer Controls items on eBay.com

oldschoolADS 01-12-2009 09:37 PM

yeah that person wanted originally something well over a 1000 dollars for all three items...not going to happen.

Rob 01-27-2009 05:02 PM

Good news !!!!

Hey, good news ! The power supply was gone on this 7909 unit, so I had the unit repaired by Chris at S&S electronics here in Toronto (www.s-selectronics.com/978/index.html). Highly hghly recommended repair shop ! WC Enterprises in Markham http://www.wcent.ca/ (Canadian Alpine authorized repair shop) said it was not repairable due to part being NLA...haha !

Sounds amazing ! I Havent heard anything this clean in car audio ever !!
Even the installer was impressed , and hes been doing car audio for 20+ years...

Here's some pics and a video !

Rob,

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but do you have a part number for the transistor that s&s replaced in your DC DC converter? The transistor in mine was so badly burned that I couldn't read the numbers off of it, and the converter PC board does not have a scematic in the 7909 service manual.

Thanks,

Ben H.
