hi im a newbie at building boxes so i have a few questions. 1. when you screw together the pieces of your box sides, top , bottom etc. how far away should each screw be from each other and what are the typical kind and lenth of screw needed? i will be using 3/4 MDF for 10" subs. , i assume its the best choice for a sealed box. not sure tough. if im wrong please correct me! also when you screw togther the pieces to you also need to apply any type of glue in between the pieces, THEN screw it together? and i seen inside boxes, people use corking or some type of glue. what is a good brand to go with and is this applied to the inside or also in between the pieces and then screwing it down? thanks a lot! sorry 'bout all the questions. its m first box. thanks

i think the rule for box building is the longer sides overlap the shorter ones bit i could be wrong.i put the sides togther first and then the top and bottom at the same time.

make sure you use yellow glue and lots of it(its cheap).some ppl like to use gorilla glue or liquid nails.use which ever you have available.
the glue or silicone on the inside of the box is to stop air leaks.

screws are ment only to hold the box togther while the glue dries.lots of ppl use drywall scres but i just use 1 1/2" #8's and remerber to countersink or you will split your wood place them about every 4 to 6 " apart .screws add no strength to the box.when i biuld boxes i dont use any screws at all.

Counter sink and drill a pilot hole through the two pieces being joined. I believe for the silicon caulking inside the box there were some issues about the fumes weakening the rubber surrounds on the speakers. I can't remember where I read this, but I let the caulking cure for 24 hours before I place the speaker in the box.

Also, depending on the size of your box, you should brace it inside as well. Cut out a "rib" from your MDF, the box I just finished I made the brace about 1.75 inches thick and it seemed to do a pretty nice job of making the box solid.
