Box Tuning for Alpine Type R

Hey guys, just bought a 12" Type R dvc 2 ohm sub. What is an ideal hz for the sub to run at its best potential? What about for the size of the box? I am guessing a slot port box would be better than sealed, but what should the box be tuned too? Is there an exact number to produce the best sound quality, or is it just a preference?

what people refer to as general street tuning is around 35hz.

low tuning is usually producing flatter freq.response in the car. higher you go, more peaky it gets. I wouldn't tune a daily driver box > 40.

35 is not bad if you want both loudness and sq. i have mine at 30, just a preference for more sq as i have enough output.

For sound quality you should tune as low as possible without going below the drivers resonant frequency (Fs). If you are really concerned with sound quality you might just want to stick with a sealed enclosure, for ease of construction and space requirements.

I just built a tube enclosure out of sonotube for a 10" Type R 2ohm DVC. It's probably around 0.5-0.6 inside and it's sealed. at about 40% gain it puts out some serious tunes (being fed 400rms and sub is an older version 300rms). I can't imagine what it will do when I upgrade the speakers as well so I can somewhat match the output or better yet when I get an Alpine deck after winter.

oh and also I have most of my trunk space still. the tube is about 15" long and 12.5" in diameter standing on it's end cap legs with minimum contact to the floor. I think that's good thing. You know what I'll take a pic later today and post it.
