For those of you who just have a regular ole single ported/sealed box in the trunk... do you fasten down your boxes at all? or just let em sit there? I had mine mounted for a while and when I unmounted it the vibration and rattles in the car reduced by like 85 %. Guess it didn't help that it was connected to the metal of the inside rear deck. i had mine screwed to some metal behind the backseats, and got some of that industrial velcro and stuck it on the bottom. if i just left it sitting there it would slide all over the place.
i strapped mine down just to hold in in place because i found it make it a hell of a lot louder when it's not loose to bounce up and down. but that looks kinda ghetto. but i'm always switching my boxes around so it doesn't make sense to always be fastening them down.
but i would recommend if you have a pretty permanent setup to mount your box in a fixed location. but do it well so that it does not vibrate. (it also helps deter theft too!) |
hrmm coulter where can I get some of that industrial velcro?
^ ICBC doesn't cover it if it isn't attached with screws to the metal of the car...
yah well i got the metal drill holes there.. i can just say they unscrewed it...
There that picky that is has to be physically bolted/screwed to the car? Here long as there wires showing something was installed you have your receipts etc etc they cover it. Door speakers and such are a diff story which is stupid If you have some car speakers in the car in the boxes still not installed then it's home insurance which is pretty stupid..
^ Yep it has to be through metal, preferably the floor.

how would anyone possibly know if the sub was not mounted if at one point it was mounted.. then just unscrewed. The theif at the time could have unscrewed it or I could have..
if ya still want to know, i think i got that velcro at walmart....it holds pretty good to keep the box from sliding around, i wouldnt use it though to keep someone from stealing it.
cool tnx. I'll look into that velcro. And no it's not to keep it from bein stolen lol.. just to stop the movin.

Why would you NOT screw/bolt/permanently affix your gear to the car? Anything that slows the bad guys down seems like a good idea to me. Plus, I don't like 50+ lbs boxes rolling around in my trunk.

Any kind of box is a missile in an accident. Get that sumbitch screwed or bolted down like right now. Winter is here and so are the unavoidable collisions that come with it.
