Brainstorm my next system with me

Hi guys,

I want to get some bass in my car again and want to start a quick thread and get the ball rolling on some ideas.

Car: Pontiac G5. This car really sucks for getting loud. The trunk is small. To give you an idea, I tried opening the trunk and putting my old box (which is only 13.5" high, I think) in and it wouldn't fit. I had to fold the rear seats down, push them down hard, and the box barely slid in.

This is a small picture, but it gives you an idea of what I'm working with.

Using the spare tire-well isn't an option because I'm not taking my spare out.

Subs, amp, battery, etc:

I am all over the map with this, which I why I'm looking for suggestions.

Since this thing is never going to get loud, I think I'd like to have my sub(s) firing forward, just behind the rear seats. I'd build a bezel of some sort right behind the rear seats and make sure my box is sealed air tight to it. Another thing to take into consideration is that I'd still like to keep some trunk space behind the box. Stupid, eh?

So, I'd really like two 12's in there. But taking into account my size constraints [small shitty trunk space to begin with, wanting to still keep some of this shitty trunk space as well (wut?!)] I don't think that's practical. If you look at the space directly behind the seat, it actually gets even narrower and there is some heavy duty cross member in there, which is a pain in the ***. So maybe putting my box directly behind the rear seats isn't an option anyway.

Back to subs, at first I was thinking I'd try two Incriminator Audio Leathal Injection 12's. Then I thought, two Rockford T1 12's because they're good for 400 Wrms more/pair for only a little bit more $. But the most practical thing to do would be just to get a 10 HCCA, if I still want to put it right behind the rear seats.

So my first question is, what is a good amp to pair with that sub? I think having an Orion HCCA 25001 paired with it would be pretty slick. But those things are $$$, and I don't think I could bring myself to buy one. I still need $$$ to buy a second battery, amongst other things. Right now, I have an 1100 W amp, but this sub would deserve more than that. Something around the 2000-2400 W range, but I'm not what there is in that range that I can afford.

See all this confusion I've got going on? lol

Thoughts? Amp suggestions? Scrap the whole subs in the front of the trunk idea and go with two 12's mounted near the back, rear-firing?

Is this a daily driver or spl car? Is sq important? If it's a daily you're not going to get anywhere with that second battery. If you want to run that many watts you're going to need a bigger alternator.
How about going IB or maybe glassing a 12 in each rear corner?

The highest point of the cabin-trunk opening is only 13.5"?

I hear HCCA's are inefficient. If you're looking at Injections than also look at SSA DCON's for ported (10" $100/12" $125), cheap yet very sensitive (10" 86.6dB/12" 89.1dB).

You have lots of options, but how much work are you willing to put in (free air wall, sealing everything off if firing foreward)? Loud at what frequency(ies)? Playing music, tones or both? How much space are you working with (or what was the size of your last box)?

If this is for music and you can fit 1 ported 12" than you might as well consider 2 good sealed 12's - I would use 2 Eclipse SW8210's ($160-$360) in a 3.6 cube NET sealed box (yields QTC .5 / FC 27 Hz / F3 42 Hz / 86.5dB sensitivity) on a 1500W @ 2 ohms amp (Kicker, used 3k for $500ish). Other subs that model well sealed are the old Eclipse SW8000/8200 (670W/S4 only), TC Sounds LMS-R (1k) , SoundSplinter LMS-R (2k), and Audiopulse LM (1.5k).

If you want louder than what that small space can do, without having to destroy the trunk or buy an alt & more batts, consider 2 1000W 18's (Fi SSD's, DC level 4's, AQ HDC3 copper coils etc), take out the back seat (not the verticle part) and make a square ported box (12 cubes NET @ 30-40 Hz) to throw in (gotta fit through the rear-doors obv.), securing it with tie-downs that stretch to the back of the trunk and the bottom of the front seats (how else are they secured - metal cage?), powered by an Audioque 2200 ($379) @ 1 ohm. You could spend (all AQ) $880+shipping etc on subs & amp and that's cheap for how loud it'd be.

I've got a buddy that has a nice stereo in a G5. When they were testing around to find his frequency, they found the peak of his car was at 34hz (something low like that), and they had trouble getting it really loud. Later on they found another peak at like 53 hz, and he ended up getting a 150 out of it with 2 10" AQ's and a Cactus 5k. His box is a rear firing with a slot port on the drivers side. The box is only about 3-4 inches from the trunk, and it built pressure up very nice like that. Hope this helps.
