brutus is fuseless
 

last night i had a look at my bxi-2006d and i noticed that it has no external fuse. now i`m thinking should i fuse the line (which i don`t normally do) or just leave it. any suggestions?

I noticed this on my PG Xenon x400.1 amp too. I added a fuse holder inline 6" from the amp with a 40 amp fuse just to be safe. This is the first amp I've owned that didn't have a built in fuse.

I mailed maxxsonics last night and this is their reply................

"This is common for any amplifier capable of producing 2000 watts or more. Space is limited on the amplifier and trying to cram 200amps of fusing on the side of an amp is not realistic. The fuse at the front of the vehicle is sufficient".

you don't have a fuse at your battery? I hope you don't get a short somewhere along the line, or the line gets damaged in an accident or something. That's the only thing protecting your vehicle, and it's contents from burning up. Yes, put an ANL type or a circuit breaker of sufficient amperage to protect the wire.

yes i have an anl fused before the firewall. i was just wondering because the amp has no external fuse should i fuse again before the amp?

If the power wire only serves the amp, a fuse close to the amp is not necessary. However, if you have other equipment connected to that power line, you should fuse the line that only serves the amp. Just to be safe, I would put a breaker or fuse close to amp regardless of the power line distribution....:cool:

oh!! ok then. No it's not necessary, as long as you use the appropriate fuse at the battery, the one recommended by the manufacturer. Now, if you have multiple amps and a distribution block, then from the block to the amp has to be fused appropriately.

I think I posted just as ^^ did.

^^^^^correct^^^^^ however if you have a distrobution block and your wires go down in size , like 1 2 gauge going to 2 4 gauge , the smaller wires should be fused as close to the block as possible .

that's a great reason to get a distro/fuse block, and you always want to fuse as close to the power source as possible. That ensures that the exposed portion of wire is at a minimum.
