Bumpin' on Budget!

Finally made an account on this site...

I'm 16, live in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. I own a 1985 Chevy Cavalier 4dr, 3 spd auto. Russet Brown in color (looks orangy). When I received the car, it already had 2 Pioneer 6x9's in the back, and a Kenwood KDC-2011S HU (like from 1999 ). Needless to say, I am happy to have at least that! Sounds pretty good, and bumps pretty good for what it is. :sly: :)

So anyway, I am now getting ready to throw some subs into it. I bought 2 10" MTX MZS1004's in the MTX Sledgehammer box. This is the box here http://www.cartel.fr/2004/news/pict_.../T5512x2_2.jpg -Different woofers though. But same design.

No one carries MTX besides Futureshop here, and they sell for $499.99 (Box, with the two 10's in it). Now, there was no way I was going to pay that much for those. So, one day I was looking around at the audio places here, and stumbled upon that SAME set-up. Looked brand new. I talked to the guy, turns out that a dude bought the subs from Futureshop, and decided to get 12's instead so he went there and traded them in for a credit towards 12's, they weren't used hardly at all, not even "broken in", and it still smells new... LOL So I thought and asked him to hook 'em up to the Soundboard they had there, Kaption 700D amp (It was running approx. 1000watts) $999.99, so he hooked 'em up and sure enough they BUMPED! Sounded tight, loud, no distortion, etc. etc. etc. So I bought 'em for $200! I had listened to the same set-up at Futureshop (lol Futureshop of all places...) many times and always loved the way they sounded.

So anyway, needless to say, I have those sitting on my bedroom floor... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting for me to get some more cash so that I can buy a DAMN AMP!!! I recently bought wiring, a 4 gauge Scosche kit.

Now here are a couple amps I was looking at for decent prices: (Both subs are 4ohm so therefore I need a 2ohm capable amp, and they are rated 300WRMS each, so 600RMS total+ is what I would like to get)

http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/amplifiers/XM-D9001GTR I can get this for $350 (CANADIAN) Taxes included. 900WRMSx1 at 2ohm stable
OR
http://kenwoodusa.com/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=42&k3=155&pr=2015
That for $310 with taxes, or for $339 with taxes I can get that and this subwoofer (retails 149.99 there) and sell it. http://kenwoodusa.com/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=43&k3=157&pr=2344
That amp is 500x1WRMS at 2ohm, I have seen it power two 12" subs very nicely so I know it will work well.

Those are two good deals I came across... I don't really want to spend anymore than $350 for an amp. And no, I won't buy from ebay or the internet.

That pretty much sums up my huge story. lol

Opinions, suggestions??? So far I have only spent $310!!!! And it should have been about $650!

Ahh, I dunno... Don't think I'll be able to. I'd prefer to buy something from town here. I greatly appreciate the offer though man. :smilie_da

Nice to know that people out there know what it's like to have limited cash flow hahahaha. :)

Maybe I could look around here for a used amp too! Never really thought about THAT...

Your best bet if you want to bump on a budget is

- do not buy from Best Buy/Future Shop/A&B
- do not buy any big brands (JL, MTX, JBL, Alpine, Phoenix Gold)
- never buy Audiobahn ever. That stuff is f---ing trash.
- definitely do not buy new, especially amps, since they don't really wear out
- do not buy two subs, get only one
- do not get a preloaded box
- do not ever get Sony, ever

But it looks like you already wasted your money on subs. WHOOPS. Sell them as fast as you can, they are crappy, CRAPPY subs.

And then, instead of running two 10s, run ONE 12" sub. Two subs is absolutely pointless. 10" subs are especially pointless. If you have the space to run two 10s, why not one 12" or better yet one 15"? If you buy a good brand, the one 15 will be as loud as four of your 10s... It costs more then double for a small increase in volume. Run one 12" elemental designs in a custom eD box (they will even build it for you!) and get a small 300 watt amp, and you will bump way harder then you will with the cheap all the big audio companies put out and call entry level products

For some reason I don't believe this... :dunno: :sly:

These subs aren't THAT bad are they? For $200??? They sound pretty good to me for what they are and what they're worth... So what do you think I should do, try to trade 'em in for a credit towards something else? One 15"? It costs so much for something decent here. I want two of something perferably. There are two used 15" Planet Audio subs at one dealer for $150 each. What would one of those sound like? It looks like this... http://www.electronicexpress.com/images/products/large/6090.jpg I think it is the same one? P115 the model is it says. :dunno:

But then I need a box... :dunno:

well im gunna have to call u a ****in dumbass considering you only have 1 post and there is no info on what YOU have for a system ....first of all sure u did say some pretty usefull stuff, maybe voiced your opinion a bit to loud on what u personally dont like , and second of all, sure one sub would be better(bang for your buck) probably but he already has 2 10's which is good enough, he needs a amp now... and plus 2 10's push more are than 1 12!

now that amp probably would work but i think it would be alot better to go and buy that mtx used from harin101, it would be cheaper and i think alot better

well gee man looks like I remembered the password to my old account

Evidently I have been here much much longer then you have

push more are? Air? Interesting, but no they don't really. 10s usually have less power handling, less excursion, and (obviously) less cone area then a comparable 12". And don't forget the low end response really lacks with a 10". Plus, the only time a 10" will sound better then a 12" is if you are buying from a low quality manufacturer that uses the same motor in all of their subs from 10 inch to 15, which is coincedentally also caused 15" subs poor reputation for sound quality, when really they can be just as good.
