Well you will be happy with this sub. It hits hard and sounds clean. As far as your other question you should give a budget. The 12W7 and 1000/1 are pricey as it is, so let us know how much you are willing to spend on speakers, an amp, and headunit.

I think you'll be fine with a 500/1 amp, unless you're planning on 2 12w7's

True enough, but that's about 250W short of the 12W7s RMS handling. I would go witht he 1000/1 and turn the gains down to a safe level. That way the sub is reaching its maximum potential.

you're correct, I was thinking of a 10w7 for some reason

What is the goal for the system? Good sound or loud or a combination of both? Who is going to build the proper box for the sub(s) or are you going basic prefab only? Looking new with warranty or used? Why look at a "governed" amplifier when you can get more power for less $? Lots of questions need to be asked and answered before you settle on something. Do your research now to prevent failure and a waste of $ later on.

Personally if you're going for Loud I'd agree with the question above regarding why you want a regulated amp like the JL.

Personally I've spent some time listening to these systems and for other than the fact that it costs way more money, you can get the same for far far less $$$.

$1000 isn't going to cut it for that package bud. Not even for the AMP, never mind the sub and deck. You don't have any $$$$ for a front stage amp, install or the box either.
