well i have been looking at a new stereo for the car... but i havent been able to pick between two 12 inch type-x's or one 15 inch new stoker... the amp i have kinda picked is the pg 1200.1 mono block and i am possible going to run two of those.... does anyone have one or these set ups already or can give me good guesses on the numbers they might put up... and help would be great thanx

I would imagine your setup of two 12" subs and one 1200 watt amp would probly put out anywhere from 0-170dB. I would also guess that your single 15" sub and single 1200 watt amp would be about the same.
(Note that I didnt take into account your car, box, or any type of install for that matter) [ May 31, 2005, 06:42 PM: Message edited by: coulter ] |
according to my alpine rep, the type x isnt really designed as an spl woofer, just my two cents worth

What are you after.... a system that you can listen to or a loud one note wonder? What kind of car is it going in? Do you plan on competing?
Too many variables that have to be nailed down. |
A week ago I would have laughed at a type X, There is a truck up here with 3 cubic feet per sub slot ported that changed all that, he almost lost his windows at a show and shine, then went to comp mode and had to unroll his windows, stuck my body in with the door open and it still shook me pretty good.
The guys from visions in Saskatoon did a great job on the install too (very clean) Has 1000 watts per sub, 3 batteries and 3 cubic feet per box. I was pretty impressed. Good luck doing that in a car |

I would have to say the 15" because I feel that a single 15" could easily take 2 12" depending they are both made by good companies. I dont know much about the stocker or type x from alpine. Its hard to believe the type x dont put out good spl becaues they are the top of the line sub for alpine and i know the type rs pound pretty good, but you got to love the big 15s, they have some pound in them.

Everything else being equal,
A 15" sub has 175 square inches of cone area.. Two 12 inch subs combined have 226 square inches. [ June 01, 2005, 08:21 PM: Message edited by: loudtdi ] |
2- 12" subs.
