cap problems

hey all, i just bought a cap for my system and it keeps shutting on and off whenever it likes. it might stay on anywhere from 2- 10 min. its only rated 1 farad and i know im putting out around 1000 rms with my amps. i was wondering is maby it was overheating caus its not as big as it should be maby? any thought are welcome.

maybe a bad ground? i'd get rid of the cap and just put in a second battery.

Is this the cap's display?

Your cap isnt turning on and off. The display is. The display will come on and off with current draw..

its the display and a green led light on the chip. and ya thats what i was thinking at first, it seems to turn off at any volume level, i had it cranked and it still was turning off every few min. id like to put in a second battery but its a bit out of my budget. seems cheap to think of but 2 new batteries, at least 4 ga. wireing, and build some sort of ventilated compartment i might be able to save some money up though.

Ive seen MANY caps that look like they are turning on and off but it is just the Display.. if there isnt enough current being pulled.. the Display will turn off.. its the way they are designed. You can buy them so the display will stay on ALWAYS. but there isnt really a need. The Cap you have is enough for a 1000watt system.

You can keep putting caps in until you don't hear a change in the SQ of your system...

Batteries will help in extreme current conditions.. and for parking lot play time... but most don't have the speed of caps. If caps didn't do anything you wouldn't have a bunch in your amp already. Every amp does.
