Car Audio hooked up to a PC??

Well here's the deal, i want to add some really powerfull speakers to my computer so i decided that Car Subwoofers and speakers would be a good choice ( because they are cheap and powerfull , where home speakers are overpriced and no as powerfull).
Since i have no idea on how to do this setup im hopeing that you guys could help :) .
Im looking to spend somewhere around $500 for everything.
thanks for the help

Your going to need to find some old tanker amplifiers / receivers from a pawn shop. I mean old as well. Then you can get yourself a good set of components and subs, build some boxes and away you go.

Make sure the reciever you use is stable @ low impedance or you could blow the amp... A quick solution to this is to wire the subs in series to present higher impedance to the amp...

you should be able to find a cheap 12v 2 or 3way electronic crossover on fleabay... then power it from a wall wart ('value village' for $1 :la: )

that with a pair of recievers, inexpensive subs, and a coax (or component) set.... and you should be set...

the hardest part will be building the boxes.... :cheeky4:

have you looked into the logitech computer speaker systems ....such as the z5500's they pound. Just a suggestion .... you could probably find two sets used for 500 or so and they would total over 1000 watts rms.

Car audo at home is not that great...
here are some reasons why:

1:main speaker.. You will have to build a box... and not just buy those tiny carpet covered 6x9 boxes. Then you have not much of a clue on T/S parameters so you are on your own. .

2: Suboofer... Most car subs in small boxes will not go down very low in a home. They are designed to use the small interior volume of a car.. to bost the low frequencies below say 50-70hz.. its called cabin gain.
3: Power... you still need a good amp to drive them a cross over for the sub etc..

for example...with this.. you dont need a sub..

or these are very nice ... and cheap... and will blow most car speaker away..

Look around on ebay and other discount stores you can get good brand name mains and subs, and a good amp.
