This Kenwood amp has two 25A fuses in it. Wouldn't that mean that a unit capable of producing 60A would be sufficient?
Ill say it before Yuli, you need 2 capacitors! |
i have a 50 amp 12v power supply that i got out of a demo board. Regular 120v power from the wall... had it hooked up straight to amps/deck as well as a big battery, having it on the battery made a difference, filtered out noise in the system. However wasnt too bad without the battery either.

btw, if you want to power an HU an old PC ATX PSU will do the trick (+12v @ 14A) Nick. |
A basic power source for a PC tower would work too? Can you give me more details as to how that would be implemented? That route seems a little more feasible, assuming it works properly.

How 'bout that puppy? Has an output of 62A on the +12V line. Not sure I'm using the right terminology. And I still need to determine how the wiring would be done to the amp. The amp usually gets a 4AWG cable from the battery, getting power from the alternator. I'm having a hard time grasping how this little unit would be able to properly power an amp. The wire is tiny. lol Off to do more research. Should also mention that not all 700W+ PC power supplies will provide 60A on the 12V. If you check the specifications on this unit, you'll see that it only outputs 18A on the 12V. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2235424&CatId=2533 |
how about an old car battery and a car battery charger? hook up the amp as usual and put the charger on the battery, and presto you've got power. A friend of mine has a shop and its been running like that for years. He even uses a chrysler factory HU!

More options never hurt.
I plan on hooking up a cheap 150WRMS 10" sub too. Is there any likelihood that the car battery/charger combo will have a hard time keeping up with the draw the amplifier will put on it. I know its not a lot of power, I just don't have any idea how much power the charger is putting into the battery. http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444188 8879&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672454&bmUID= 1231397653858 Is this unit overkill? I have my OEM Hyundai battery sitting in my garage. I replaced it mid-October with an Interstate Megatron. The old battery should suffice, right? I can ground the amp to the negative on the battery. Can I do the same with the head-unit? |
