Greetings... glad to be aboard. I joined in the hopes I could call upon the collective input of this group for some feedback. In particular, does anyone here know a listing (say, out of Car Stereo Review etc) of loudspeaker driver particulars which indicates the size of magnet and diameter of voicecoil? Much obliged!

Of what model driver/s in particular?

Hi HW, I wasn't looking for any particular driver brand. The information was to help me decide which drivers (specifically woofers) which had certain design characteristics in the motor structure. It seems most car audio woofers use a 2" voicecoil with a 4 or 6 layer winding. I'm looking for those drivers which use a large 3"+ voicecoil and preferably 4". I think there may be a few out there but my knowledge lies in home audio and not automotive so I really couldn't say. Any notion where I could find such info?

only the monster woofers out there use 4inch coils to withstand the heat as they can take more power and play longer than the conventional 2inch coils

Hi Fellas, thanks for the feedback. I did try Google and a few other search engines as mentioned but with only mild success. Rockford Fosgate makes drivers using 3 & 4 inch coils available in a 12" loudspeaker. Ditto for Celestion, but that's where my luck ended. I'd bought a few car audio "year end equipment" annuals a number of years ago, and retained them for reference, but even they didn't list voicecoil size in their data. I guess looking for a buggered Rockford or Celestion for experimentation might be the only way to go in a large voice-coiled car audio speaker...

what kind of handling are you looking for?
and you looking for just 12" subs or?

Hi CB, the drivers would be modified for use in home audio purposes. An efficient bass driver that can handle a straight 50 watts through its operational frequncy band is plenty adequate.
Essentially I was looking for 12" car audio drivers that were completely buggered, non-repairable, but yet which had the large voicecoil diameter. I could then use the baskets as a platform and install my own components to resurrect it into a hi-fi driver. Many times, when a driver is completely shot, it's more economical just to buy another instead of paying for a re-cone. I'd like to save a few of these woofers for experimental use. So, here begins my search :)
