Hey guys...
I've been wondering about this for a while...

My car sits at 12.x when I just turn the key back, but it will go to 14.6 or so (sometimes higher) once its on.

But my question is, how come I dont notice a sound diffrence? Most amps will put out higher watts once it sees a higher voltage, correct? Maybe its just me, but I can't tell a difference at all! Does anybody else have this problem?

Electrical System info (if needed)
Brutus bx1000d
4ch Alpine amp
Old school alpine HU (7940 or something)
AC 4.1
and Optima yellow top...

Thanks guys!

Joe

If I could find my calculator I could tell you the difference in db between 12& 14v, assuming the power supply is linear in regards to input/output.

It probably isn't much.... 1db would be barely audible....

or your amp is regulated. so it wont make any more power going from 12v to 14v

what they said

why would it sound different?

its not like you are gaining a significant amount of power going from 12 - 14.6 volts.

In theory with an unregulated amp you would be gaining over 20% wich seems like a fair bit.

But you figure a rule of thumb is double the power gain three db (1 db is the smallest audible change in sound that the human ear can detect). Assuming the rule of thumb above is linear you would only be gaining around 2/3 of a db, not an audible differance to the human ear.

It should SOUND the same no matter what voltage unless the amp is out of it's normal operating range.
