Hi..
I just got a new 03CRV... and find the factory speakers fairly boomy.. and would like to get clearer and more articulated sound quality... my type
of music is mostly vocals/jazz/classical and pop/easy listening/soft rock etc.... dont need very heavy bass.. my crv comes with a 6cd changer/anti theft.. I think i will stick with it.. and replace the front speakers with better quality speakers for now. (for budget reasons)..

1. any experience/comments about Focal 165K2 or V2 speakers?

2. any experience with AVI speakers? (made in Richmond BC)

I am hoping with the upgrade in front speakers/cabling will improve the sound quality significantly... if not, i may hv to consider upgrading the cd head unit...

I used to hv an alpine 7xxx series cd player.. i loved it.. sometimes i did feel the unit was fairly warm after playing back for an hr or so.. it didnt bother me.. but always wonder if this wud do any harm to the unit in a summer day!? I am little tired of carrying the cd plate in/out of the car and there4 i like the changer..

I want something simple, clean, and good sound quality.. and honestly I am not a frequent user of MP3, WMP etc. Other than Alpine deck, what would be some good quality decks? (Clarion, Pioneer or Eclipse)? I think budget wise.. probably no more than C$400-450.. before taxes..

Last question... re the install.. is it worth the C$300 to pay for "deadening"? sort of install a layer inside the door panel for sealing purpose?

any thoughts/comments. appreciated..

I agree, you really wont be able to take advantage of aftermarket speakers of that calibre without outboard amplification. Even a small 100 watt amplifier will make some components in the front sound great.

As for the deck, Alpine has always made a great HU. I recently got my Nakamichi CD-400, and am very happy with it. If you want something very simple with terrific sound, it is a winner. I know there have been some concerns regarding nak's fincial condition and as a result, the quality of their products, but so far.. so good.

As for sound deadning, I think it is worthwhile. I'm not sure about the $300 quote they gave you, that seems awfully steep for front door deadning. I would say closer to $100-150 including installation for the entire doors sounds more reasonable. Depending on how difficult it is to remove the door panels, it may be a fun saturday job. I was able to do mine in a relatively short period of time, and it saved me quite a bit of money. Check out www.b-quiet.com . Their BrownBread is great stuff.
