Does anyone have or know anyone that has had a Alpine CDA 7893. I still stand behind Alpine as far as quality and everything but have had a really bad time with this model....it has quit 3 times on me now and it is slowly pissing me right off....Anyone got any feedback on this model..it is the silver one, flip down dace, blue buttons. No MP3...should have gone 1 more model up 8D

What do you mean it quit on you ?

My GF has the same one and it can get very annoying ... It doesn't exactly like to read CDs in the summer or if they have the smallest scratch/fingerprint on them ...

I have had nothing but good feedback on that unit.
One thing you can do, is make sure that you are running constant power from the battery. Not sure if that will solve your problems (or maybe you already have), but if you are running deck power, it's a good idea with the v-drive decks...

I had the deck that was the next step up, the 7894. It was reliable, only problem I had was that the disc would get stuck when ejecting once in a while. I ran direct power for it, off the battery, and it never ran too hot(although I did not use the internal power). One weird thing I noticed, this happened only a few times, was that I would be in the sound menu, adjusting sub level or balance, and when I would turn the knob to make an adjustment, the deck shut off for a second. This only happened a few times, and it would power right back up again. My ground was good too, for the record.......

I was running power straight off the battery. The first time it messed up was only a week after I had it. Skipped a ton, every bump I hit it skipped so I took it back and flipped out when they did not want to do anything about it so they exchanged it for a new one. Exactly one year after the warranty ran out same thing, they sent it back and apparently it was a laser misalignment. Now almost a year later, again laser misalignment pops up and when I put a cd in it only goes about a quarter of the way the face flips up and crams the cd in there ......so yeah, kinda losin faith in the model....

HAHAHAHAHAHA.... I am soo sorry but i just have to laugh at your expense. Thats just terrible man. I would get soo pissed off about that... Damn i think i would probly throw it through ALPINE'S window and tape a note to it saying "fix it".

Anyway i had the model above it. the 7894. It was a decent model. but i had several problems with it. sometimes it would stop responding to the volume knob when i turned it. Or it would not respond to some various buttons. Anywho, i managed to fix it every time by reseting it. If you have not done so. there is a small button on the face that you can poke with a pencil or something. Make sure your vehicle is off. Push and hold the button for 3-5 seconds i think (its been a while) and then wait a min or 2. Then turn your truck back on. This will erase all of your presets and x-over setings but it may fix your problem. That model seemed to have a lot of glitches in it that could easily be mended by reseting. you might try it if you have not allready. If you want more specific instructions you can look in your manual. If you do not have the manual PM me and i will go out to the building and get the manual from my old deck to tell you how. If that doesn't help.....sorry. but good luck anyhow.

another thing... the reason i had to get rid of mine was because when i put my new system in... it would skip the hell out of it and i could not turn anything up past half hahaha. it was bad. the day of competition i offered the local shop owner 500 (about 100 bucks off) flat for an ALPINE CDA-9835 and he took it. I installed it in the parking lot with 100 other cars there and competed 15 minutes later with a dead battery (truck would not even start (had to be jumped by my buddies 4-runner), i was all --stock---alternator that day), 2 12 and 2400 watts. I didn't even know how to work any features on my deck so i had no crossovers and no eq . I still broke 146 at the dash. I thought that was kinda cool.

again good luck

yeah unfortunatly I tried the reset feature to no avail. And man tell me about the pickiness of that deck..I put my stock cd player back in my Z24 till this one gets fixed and that one never skips or anything....like damn if I could hook my amp and sub up to that I would...not to mention I love automoatic speed compensating volume, gotta be the coolest feature I have ever seen in a stereo...but I should have my 7893 back in a few days so I guess I will see what happens and what they say is wrong with it this time...at this point I am starting to just think I am cursed.

You could always get a line output convertor, and keep your stock deck.

StarScream 08-21-2004 06:10 PM

the sound quality just is not the same...besides the stock deck was designed to run just 2 5 /14 in the doors and the 2 6x9's in the back. Right now it is trying to run the stock 6x9's because my aftermarket ones were hooked up through the amp and 2 6" in the doors instead of the 5 1/4 inch and crossovers and tweets in the dash. So needless to say it is streched to its limits to say the least.
