cheap db meters

IM looking for a cheap db meter thats fairly accurate because Im going to be replacing my entire stereo and would like to keep db numbers as I upgrade, a termlab would be nice but way out of my budget

Go to a show and get metered, should only cost about 20 bucks. You could assume that if you're putting in more powerful equipment there will be some gains.

If you're dead set on getting a meter then I think there is a relatively cheap one that you can buy from Russia. Not entirely sure, but I think it was pretty close to Termlab numbers but costs a lot less.

There are ones you can buy fairly easy and cheap.
Scosche has one BUT it only reads up to 130 iirc.

Another option is to find someone locally to you that has a Term-lab and will help you test for a small fee

$25 ... do I hear $25?

Use your imagination = FREE

Most of the world does it ... "My system is 170db's" ... there, done.

If you've got a true RMS multimeter then this might be a good option: www.makeitlouder.com

I wouldn't consider $260 cheap, but its got to be less then what a termlab setup costs...

I'd just save up for a termlab.

Nameless, you can buy just about any of the $50-100 meters if it's only for comparison. You would have to use the same test track each time to keep the measurements relevant but it would definitely give you a reference. I suggest using several different test tracks each time you do tests. I have the Radio Shack analog one and it has a handy line-out for recording and analysis. If you have a PC with a decent sound card you can make it into an accurate analyzer. PM me if you are interested in the PC analyzer. Also, there are hacks for the RS meter posted online to make it much better than the sticker price.
