Clarion DPX1800 Mono Block
I just bought one of these for a little under $500 and put it on my Clarion PXW series 15 dual 2 ohm wired to 1 ohm... the amp puts out clean power but blows the 80 amp fuses in my wireing kit (4ga) when I really crank it... I know theres 90 amps of fuses in the back of the amp so im guessing that this is the problem
I didnt see any more than 80 amp fuses at Canadian tire (other places closed when I blew the fuse) can you get more than 80 at car stereo locations or shoud I go to 0awg and get a new kit |
I think the best option is to upgrade the wiring kit to 2G or higher and replace the fuse holder (i'm assuming you currently have an AGU) with an ANL fuseholder. AGU fuses are the glass tube/cartridge type fuses and the ANL's are long, thin and rectangular. By the way, to my knowledge, with AGU fuses, anything higher than a 60 amp fuse is illegal and unsafe (i could be wrong on that)...Anyways, go with a bigger wiring kit and ANL...

you'll have to change to an ANL type fuse/fuseholder, as the AGU (I assume, large glass type?) only comes in maximum 80 amps size (even that is rare).

Go with a ANL fuse holder and fuse they are availible up to 350 amps, I would suggest a 150 amp as being enough

^^recommended maximum fuse size for a 4awg wire is 125 amps, so use that size or smaller. Remember you're protecting the wire, not just the amp (in this case the amp has a fuse).

thanks
cool, they are the AGU fuses and the highest I can get is 80amp Ill have to get that upgraded to an ANL fuse holder. Unill then im just going to keep er turned down a bit.
I dont think I will need to upgrade the wiring though because Im running this set up in a 06 cobalt, the battery is about 1 foot away from the amp in the trunk. Anyone have any experience with these amps? I think it sounds awsome |
