Clarion and flexibility
#1
Hey guys
Help me out here: I'm picking up a 2003 clarion 1000.2 (400 cdn cash). The specs on the clarion website give the output(s) in stereo. I was wondering if anyone knows if this amp is 2 ohms stable (for mono). At present, I'll be hooking up 2 Kicker Comp 8ohm (single VC) in parallel for a 4 ohm mono load, but in the future, 2 4ohm drivers for a 2ohm mono load. Can this amp do this (Both 4 and 2ohm mono loads)?. I'm still ironing out my impedance knowledge. All help/advice is appreciated. Thanks...

Checked out some reviews (it is the DPX1000.2 rght?) from www.carreview.com , here is one:
Reviewed by: trunks333, from Philadelphia
Model: 2001
Price Paid: $199 at Ebay, CMTTRADING
Summary:
This is a really good amplifier. Im pushing a Kicker L7 15 solobaric subwoofer and it does a great job, except the amp gets really hot bridged at 2 ohm, other than that its great for the price i paid. I wanted to get a APX1000.2 but it does not come with a subsonic filter so i chose this one instead. For the price i paid $199 is deserves to be 5 stars
Strengths:
POWER, CLARITY, SOUND, GREAT LOWPASS
Weaknesses:
gets really hot when pushing a 15 inch square solobaric at bridged mode 2ohm
Similar Products Used:
First car amp

Jeep,
if it is an 03 clarion amp, it isn't the dpx1000. It might be the dpx1001 or something like that.
The dpx1000 is atleast a couple of years old, and according to 1 review(may have been autosound and security), it didn't do rated power(listed at 250x2 at 4 ohms, and it did 153x2 at 4 ohms, and max power was around 900 watts...rated for 1000)
It may still be a great deal, but it just didn't do rated power(or atleast the one tested did not).

Well
There's always so much to think about. I'll keep reading around. There are deals waiting to happen. I just really want to avoid the 'upgrade' cycle... you know, constant upgrades to meet the sound you want. I know the good stuff (JL, Orion, (eep, Zapco) are awesome, but pricey. I know you get what you pay for, but I don't need that level of quality...I probably wouldn't notice the fine levels of difference. Any suggestions?...class D, 2-4 ohms (mono at each), 4-500 $ TOTAL price, wire blocks (not screw downs), decent sound control options, etc.Basically lower high end. Let me know..

well if you are just running subs off the amp, I would recommend a mono D, if you are interested I have a NIB Boss Riot 1400 Mono D amp 1 ohm Stable (check it out at www.bossaudio.com ) I will sell for $200 + shipping, I was going to use it but I have switched to a memphis amp setup (higher end)....

I paid $500 for my Xtant 1001d used off this board. People's eyes bulge out of their heads when they see this amp! I know there are a couple of these amps on ebay for around $500 Canadian.
PM me if you want more information of my experience with this amp.
