Hello, I have a friend from the US that wants to trade me his Cliff Designs CDX-20A for my 2 Orion HCCA 275r's.

I am considering the trade but I'm not sure as to how good of an amp the CDX-20A is. It is rated at 3600 RMS at 2 ohms 14.4 volts.

I know that it's supposed to be similar (or virtually the same) as the MA Audio HK 4000D and the Visonik 4000XD.

I will be using the amp maily for daily driving off a 200 amp Rob V.O. alternator.

Thanks,
Craig G

OK talked to my friend and his shop is using those specific amps in their demo vehicle right now. They are using 4 amps(1 for each sub). They are 3600w at 2ohm. I was a big fan of the HCCA before the gen3's came out. It all depends on your situation and your goals if you want to trade

OK thanks for the info. It's appreciated.

Does your friend like the amps a lot? What is his overall impression of them since he seems to have extensive experience.

Thanks,
Craig G

Clif Designs used to be a good name, "back in the day"...
...same with Orion, PPI, SoundStream, and a slew of others that have since been purchased by assimilation machines.

Like you said, the Clif amp is essentially the same as those other amps produced by the Anaba Group... although without a doubt, the Clif Designs amps look the best of the bunch.

Accordingly though, they are likely a bit optimistic on their power ratings... just factor that in.

But no doubt, they are big, very powerful amps. We've got four of them running in a demo vehicle.. one per Clif Designs competition 15" sub... and it really does slam, even in an install that really wasn't built for maximum SPL - I'm sure this thing is still in the 150's.

I wish I could tell you more about them...
Intuitively, I'd guess that the Clif amps will handily produce more power than the Orion amps - but the old Orion amps (prior to their purchase by the Directed assimilation machine, right?) would be of higher quality.

...of course, another thing to consider... if you are shopping for an amp this large, you aren't shopping for a SQ amp - you are looking for an amp with some burpability... so my latter point might be moot anyway. ;)

Thanks a lot for the input guys. I appreciate it.

The guy decided to blow up the Clif :S so I guess I'm not getting it.

He is getting it replaced by Anaba for a MA Audio HK4000D modded so I might look into that but I'm mainly looking for street beat and when I do compete i am in Street Max 1-2 so I can only have 1 battery.
