So some of you know i have a set of Concept PT12's, very nice subs and i have nothing but good to say about them!

But last year my earthquake amp blew (imagine that!) so i've been trying to get money for a new amp when i saw an add selling (2) Concept CC-D1200 amps... they are rated for 400x1@4ohms, 750x1@2ohms, and 1200x1@1ohm

So what i'm thinking is running one amp per sub, and for daily driving wire each up for 4ohms and have 400 per sub. But for comps rewire it for 1ohm and shoot for maybe 1000 a sub give or take

The subs are rated for 700RMS so even at 1000 for only a few seconds i think they will hold no problem. And i'm thinking of putting the subs in about 4 - 5 cubic foot ported box, with at least one probably two yellowtops and hopfully a 160A rewound alternator.

Anyone see any problems with that setup? Anyone have any info on the amps? Whats a fair price for the amps?

Another thing i'm hoping for is that with running these amps at 4ohms 95% of the time they will last a LONG time!

You might not get that much more power out of them. with it rated @ 1200wrms @ 1ohm - that power gets divided amongst the coils running.
If you have four 4 ohm coils parralleled that will give you a 1 ohm load - but then the 1200 watts will be divided to give each coil only 300 watts.

I don't think there is a way that you can milk those amps for more power. I don't know much about the concept stuff - are those subs SVC or DVC and what is the impedance of each coil?

Also is that amp stereo or a mono block? If it is stereo, what are the full power stats.

(2) amps
(2) dual 2ohm 12's

one amp per sub, series the coils for 4ohms and get around 200 per coil.

When i goto comps wire the coils in parallel for around 500 per coil

I don't see any problems with that, I say go for it.

Ah yes. With dual 2 ohms you can get a lot more power! I Assumed dual 4 ohm. Go for it! That will make a big difference!

. . . or buy 4 amps and feed each coil 750 :D

400rms on each sub should sound nice and get pretty loud on a daily basis and with 1200 for each at comps, what else needs to be said..

just a note on Concept amps, i've always liked them. Started with an old CC-504 that does 75x2 + 35x2 @4ohms which i used to run a set of speakers @4ohms then bridge the back channels for a sub (against my installers advice) and the amp handled it fine. Now i've moved up and i've got a CC-D800a amp (step down from the d1200a) and i've got nothing but good things to say about it. I run it at 1 ohm all day long and any time i drive by myself my music is usually cranked to about as loud as it'll go (or that i've turned it up to).

Both amps are super solid and going on 2 years on the cc-504 and 1 on the d800a. Only time the d800a ever over heated was on a long road trip from BC to AB. Temps in BC were about 40ish celcius...and my gear all sits in my trunk so, after running this at full blast for a couple hours the subs kicked off, but 20 min later i stopped to fill up with gas, and started things back up and we were back to normal. Never had either of them shut down on me other than that.

All in all, I think concept makes solid amplifiers and would recommend them to just about anyone!

So what type of rating is '700 watts' ??

If it's continuous thermal, I'd give them the 1200 each provided they wern't over-excurting... If it's a musical rating I'd still run at 1ohm each and adjust the amp gains accourdingly... (so they arn't overexcurting or getting more then roughtly 700RMS@1ohm imp.)

They should still last
