compact subs?

Hi all,

Well today i headed into futureshop to return some dvd-r's, but anyways after the return found myself in the car audio section  I have seen this really small 8" infinity sub in a bassworx box. Now i have been contemplating on getting some kinda compact setup where i don't want my entire trunk gone but more bass in my trunk. I have a 2000 grand am SE 4dr with a Kenwood HU i don't know the model of it... but i can tell u it is in the $130-$150 range when i got it like 4 months ago... so its not the greatest but hey its better than factory =P Anyway back to what i wanted a compact setup. Are there any better solutions to getting those self powered sub boxes ie. basslink by infinity. Any help would be great!

Thanks

The basslinks are pretty good sound-wise, but you'll be giving up a chunk of your trunk to it. In your behemoth of a Pontiac, an 8" sub will sound like a mouse fart.

Look around a little more outside of the big box stores and you might find something a little more suitable. If you want smaller, stick to sealed enclosures. Perhaps something like the CS110RG-W1v2 from JL Audio which is only 12.25 in. x 19.75 in. x 10.125 in (HxWxD), plus a JL Audio A2150(bridged) or A1400 amp (pretty small, can be mounted to the back of the seat with minimal effort).

There are others as well, JL just offers a convenient line of pre-built, properly tuned boxes.

lol nice way of putting it for an 8" and yea the trunk is huge, yet for some wack reason its always full. right now it has 4 bags of rice in it! yep that asian dynamat!

You may want to consider a 12" compact design sub. kicker and boston accoustics make one, it's designed for small spaces. The sub is only about 4" deep, and the box for them only take up as much space as a typical 8"woofer box. I'm pretty sure other companies make them as well. I've heard some good feedback about response too, so it might be something to look into.

Slim mount subs are designed for truck cabs. Anything else and you're better off with a slightly larger one with more excursion, in my opinion.

elemental designs has a cheap slim sub, its only $70 and i think its only like 3" deep...my buddy might pick 2 of them up for his ext cab ram(going underneath rear bench)

But i heard if you put a sub in too small of a box you can prematurely kill it or burn it out?
