Ever built an SQ car Jordy? I'm sure you have, but I HIGHLY doubt it would ever place anywhere except last!

But the pioneer truck has much more on it...
That's great info....I guess I'm a little less ignorant knowing this ^^.. Right Jordy!

To the beef section we go! How about a new thread? What costs more to build, a top level SQ or SPL car?

Depends on many factors. If the focus is only on the install and electronics.
Discarding trailers and towing truck - SQ cars also have those requirement too. We call them Trailer queens.

They probably are probably close but IMHO an SQ car costs more in labor and fabrication.

I disagree. if you and I bought the same equipment and put it in the same car and did all the work ourselves, then they'd be worth the same. fabrication for pure functionality of the equipment probably costs next to nothing when compared to frabrication for a good looking install, which is unfair to count when comparing costs between spl and sq.

wait a sec! we are talking extreme SQ and SPL here.

I think if we go back to an amateur (average joe) like 150db car vs a SQ 200+ point in IASCA SQC1, the SQ car will need more expensive equipments. In term of labor yes SPL is a lot of trial and error, but it's the same thing for SQ.

But one thing is sure, in SQ or SPL whatever the amount of money you put in if you don't know wtf you're doing you wont get good results.

Now going back to what car for SQ, i would say that the goal would be to have a car where you can aim the speaker directly at you, the L and R side as far as possible from each other and where the distance of the listener from the L and the R is almost the same. It's a car so there will always be some constraint and you will have to do some sacrifice.

If you wanted to buy a car today to be able to do either SQ or SPL then I would buy a CRX. You can be a world finalist in either discipline with that car. Truly you probably can with a handful of cars but the CRX isn't hard to work on and returns good results.

Actually, "Black Betty" took 7.5 years to complete ( over 11,000 hours ) & over $250,000.00

^ I can't say for the car in question but back 10 years ago it was regularly suggested to mix sand and resin into a thick concrete like paste, mix with hardener, and slather it on for heavy duty deadening.
