Complete Newb, need some help (Please!)
 

Hi all

I am looking to get a decent sound system in my truck, a 1995 GMC Sierra Ext. cab. I am on a tight budget. I would like to put two 10" subs under the back seat in a box very similar to this:

That is designed to go exactly where I want it to go, but I plan on making my own. My dad is a professional carpenter and has showed me a few things, so no worries there :D What do I make the box out of? MDF I would assume, but how thick?

What subs would you recommend? I have a feeling I will need something with a fairly low mounting depth. Does any body have experience with these trucks that can tell me what fits well? Preferably cheap ad good sounding. My freind recommended Pioneer P3's or Flats are what he called them.

What amp will power whatever subs you recommend? Again, on the cheap but with decent quality and SQ.

finally, will my stock door and pillar (is that what you call them?) speakers be sufficient for a while until I have enough cash to upgrade?

I already have a deck, albeit a POS, but hey, it was free :D It is a Jensen CD2010X.

5/8 or 3/4 MDF is pretty standard..... but if you can get your hand on some nice hardwood plywood you won't go wrong either...

subs and amp depends on budget and air space available.....

My budget is around 600 for just subs and amp if that helps any. There is not much room, the air space in that box I posted is basically a foot per side.

$600.00 can most certainly get you a great pair of Pioneer subs and the amp to power them. Interested, drop me a PM for more info.

Will my subs be vulnerable to feet and shoes being under my seat? Is there any way I could protect them without the protection rattling?

A $8.00 speaker grill is far cheaper than a new sub and installed properly they do not rattle.

You may want to check out Mach5 subs. They are very good for their price. And It'll leave you more money in your budget for an amp.

Definitely... running a mach5 12 now and am very happy with it, definitely performs ALOT better ported though. Just something to keep in mind if you're considering them. They also take their rated power without even breaking a sweat.

I have been told by a guy at Visions (talked to him while getting my new phone) to look into Alpine Type S? I think thats what he said. One of my freinds told me to get MA Audio. Ay opinions on either? Thanks. I will also look into Mach 5's

well if you have approx. 2cft under the bench whynot look into getting a Alpine type R?(single 10 dvc4ohm). Or perhaps even a JBL sub, I ran 4 10" and I was more then thrilled, and then ran 2 of them and more output, almost same response. And as for an amp, I would like to say go to the board sponsers such as Smartass or 2loud4you. And as Rob mentioned earlier can easily get into a nice pioneer setup!
