Concept Subs What do u know ?
 

like the title says what do u know about concept subs ?

They produce bass... just like most other subwoofers in equivalent price ranges.

what price range ($$$) and catergory would these subs fall under in terms of are they for the new commer or someone looking for a serious set.

just trying to educate myself.

Concept have made some sketchy products over the years. They were initially trying to market to an SPL market and were one of the first comapnies to come out with a quad coil woofer. Their R and D department however did a horrible job with it and it was released anyway as the round wire, copper coil was too thick and too heavy and the woofers were very unreliable as the coil tended to unwind and blow up. They released later the concept 2400D amplifier which was at the time one of the bigger amps available that was strappable. These amps were notorious for blowing up probobly more than any other on the market. It was not unusual to see people running a whole rack of these amps and one one test run having to pull out 8 or more amps because they blew up, and this was not running them well outside the specs of the company. Since these two complete failures they have not been popular at all and as such I would never buy a concept product. They could have gotten better, they are owned (or were and I assume still are) by a company called King Audio which used to make speaker parts for companies like Resonant Engineering back in the days of the RE HC. I am not aware if RE buys parts from King Audio anymore though and I would never compare Concept products to RE.

i have a 10" that i'm going to do a 8thorder with just to see what is is like with a pg1200.1

And all of the balance of the Concept line must be crap therefor as well. So my customers with CCD2400 that have never blown one must have garbage as well. As a retailer, I had way more failures with other lines, cough (Rockford) cough, that I have ever had with Concept. Could there have been some abuse of the systems do you think or did only Concept amplifiers self destruct in the lanes?

Concept has made some great products over the years, treat it well and do not abuse it and it will do a great job for you. Treat any sub or amp poorly and the results are going to be the same, regardless of the name on the front.

that is absolutely incorrect. I am not saying those amps were the only amps in the world that blow up I am just saying that they blew up WAY more than any other amp I have ever seen. Also it should be noted that if you knew your product really well you would know that the 2400D went through a revision and is now more stable. I am commenting on the original version. I was not trying to say Concepts stuff sucks don't buy it but what I was saying is that they have a long history of putting products on the market before they are ready to be used reliably and have had alot of problems therefore as a company I would not trust them. I know you will defend your product and you can do that all you want. I have no affiliation with any company but merely have seen quite a bit and as far as concept goes have never been impressed. And I don't know why you decided to compare them to Rockford because I don't recall Rockford ever being mentioned. I wouldn't put Rockford at the top of the reliability list either...talk about saying "these subs are good they fail way less than a brand that has become so commercialized that they don't need to release quality products anymore in order for them to sell"

sold alot of 2400's, every generation, never had 1 blow up ever, odd how strange problems seem to be individual rather than the norm,

I used to sell Concept also. I never considered it a high failure line. In fact, I really really liked the product and we used to run the amps hard. The biggest problem I had with the line was the distributor..

Now I cannot recall selling a whole bunch of 2400s and yeah I heard stories about the first gen units but IMO you can't use SPL comps to gauge reliability. I remember when any board you went on was full off people trying to reset their MMATS amps or barking about how their USAmps VLX-xxxx just smoked. It happens to all brands.

^^Yeah, that's very true, I've never had a problem with Rockford products, the new stuff by the way. I think it's like anything else, some people just have bad luck with certain things and/or don't use them properly. My family for example have never had luck with Japanese or German cars...nothing but trouble for us. We have had a number of american cars hit 350-400k on the odometers with very few probs though.
