Connecting multiple speakers to one power source?
 

Hey people, I had 4 old speakers and a 200 watt (2 channel) amp I used for a previous car just lying downstairs. Two 6.5's and two 6x9's. Neither of these fit in my current GMC Sierra, and the mods to make them fit wouldn't really be worth my time/money for these old speakers. But they do still sound good and didn't want to throw them out, so I built a cutom Box, to fit the amp, and 4 speakers and fits under the rear seats.

Keep in mind i still have the factory speakers in the doors and factory deck. I've installed a few systems before, but was pretty basic, install cd player with proper harnesses, kits, replace the speakers and make them fit with cut out piece of wood and install amps to power some pretty powerfull subs.

But what i'm doing now is different, first off, where can I get the sound source from considering the ampp will need to boost up the speakers power? The factory stereo obviously wouldn't have RCA jacks for the sound source. Is it safe to simply run the wires from the factory rear speakers's wires and connect it somehow to the amp (as a sound source, not power source)? If not, any other way to connect this amp?

And the other question is, I have four speakers, but only 2 channels. I've always connected 1 speaker per channel. So, if I want to connect two speakers per channel, should I connect one wire per amp terminal and link two speakers together, or should I use two sets of wires per terminal and feed the speakers individually.

Sorry if I seem basic at this, I just don't want to make any mistakes if I can avoid them.

Altough I'll be installing a proper system in the near future considering I have in the shed a great set of subs and box, these speakers, although not worth much due to their age could provide a nice sound boost for now and then.

You need a device called a LOC, it is used to interface between the factory stereo and the new aftermarket amplifier. It takes a speaker level input from the factory system and converts it to a rca level signal for your amp to use. A LOC can be purchased from any local specialty car audio shop for about the $35.00 mark for a semi respectable one.

To connect your speakers in parallel, wire each speaker to the amp. 2 on the left channel, 2 on the right.

Cool, thanks for answering. So, in order to get a sound source to the amp, I need something called an LOC for about 35$ eh? Hm, If that's the case, I should perhaps look into buying a new deck now then. Less of a waste of time/money and space.

It is always better to channel your $ into a cd player than to waste it on something that is going to be made useless later on. I have some deals still on cd players if you are looking to save some $.

The choice of deck depends on the customers needs or future goals. I will choose one for the right application for you. PM me so we don't clutter up the OP's thread.

I recommend the Kenwood Excelon KDC-x492 or 592. Not sure how well MR2NR has these priced, but they're worth some consideration.

SC, do you have the make and model of that 2 channel amp? And the make and model of your old speakers? I'm going to assume that the 100W/channel is achievable when connecting a 2 ohm load to the channel. A pair of 4 ohm speakers, wired in parallel will give you that. 50W for each speaker.

Any chance we can see a pic of the box you made for the speakers and amp? How far apart are the speakers?
