Certainly. Interesting stuff, to say the least. Is it worth 2k? You be the judge. Are you considering buying a pair?

Vance Dickason reviewed it in CA&E.
Excerpt: The UL12 really doesn't have any drawback in terms of speaker performance. It's surely the best subwoofer I've had the pleasure of auditioning. It played effortlessly across all genres of music with precision, never pigeonholing itself to one specific style of music. Its imaging was perfect, the impact striking. There was no distortion to speak of. The output was unapologetic and powerful with a capital P. The Critical Mass UL12 is that rarity in mobile audio, a dream product for BOTH audiophile and bass head. If there's any drawback, it's the price. But I'd gladly sell a few things to scrounge up the $1,999 price tag. It's worth every dollar. http://www.caraudiomag.com/0607_cae_...s_test_report/ |
i would on a car/truck/suv that would justify a $4k in subs .if you have the $ why not
Is that a high sensitivity (96) ? It's @ 2.83 I think, how does that compare to other 10's & 12's?
^ Most subs I see are around the mid 80's. So 96 over all is pretty high sensitivity. But for a sub It is very high.
there was a guy not to long ago selling two of these on RoE for 350 each.... he said they were awesome...
If I saw them I would of bought them :(. Why so cheap? Even if they're broken, minus a re-cone and sell it for like $1500....
i cant remember, il see if i can dig up the thread an post it... and no im sure they were working fine...
it was 400 a piece.
Critical Mass UL12's fs Best by CA&E - Realm of Excursion: Forum |
Don't be misled by their published Thiele/Small parameters. The 2.83V sensitivity is quoted with the D1.5 coils wired in parallel, ie. a 0.75 ohm load; that's just over 10 Watts. If you're wishing to compare it's efficiency against other speakers, it will likely be ~87-88 dB at 1W/1m.
The advantage of the UL12 is the MMag approach, which nets improved BL linearity without sacrificing any BL in the heart of the stroke (ie. lower distortion with no sacrifice in efficiency). Still, there are better subwoofers out there, in my opinion, and definitely better subwoofers for the money if we're looking at MSRP. |
I've never heard a ported box sound as good as a sealed box, or a sealed get as loud as ported. My XXX doesnt get below 30hz too well but it's loud enough above it (pushing it). Yesterday I switched it out for 2 sealed Eclipse SW8200's on 750W (half their rms) and they didn't get very loud with the gains up, but they had much better extension, below 30hz was shaking in the car, and it sounded great. Just how much louder could they get with 1200-1500W? I want a higher SPL than the XXX and SQ like the Eclipse. I can only afford around $400 per sub/amp, and I have max 4 cuft feet in my trunk that would require 2 separate boxes to get in. I was told I shouldnt seal 4 SW12s and upfire because it would have cancellation and no gain. I don't know what to do, I have a great sub and I'm not happy with it. I also want to have the max SPL of my XXX in my next setup from using 1/2 to 3/4 of the power so I'm not killing the subs/amp listening to it at XXX level.
Build a new ported box first and tune it lower before buying anything
I still want more output.
What is your XXX box tuned to? Simultaneous low-end and output increases don't really go hand-in-hand, what is more important to you?
I have a Critical Mass UL12 I'm looking to sell.
I'd let it go for $800 or best offer, that's in USD. |

this has got to be the most over rated piece of crap on earth ! seriously lame
i have one 12" in my S2000... it was worth even single penny for the combo of weight savigns compaired to otehr high powered subs... it rated good... but there are other good mroe affordable subs to buy... and its hard to find a good amp to run it
Don't believe the hype on this sub. The only reason it was made was for those little boys who uses ricers and need a light sub to shave .02 off their fast and the furious cars...:stroke:
