Curious question

I felt like testing out my 2 12" kicker cvr subs and they arnt as loud as i thought they would be. They're running off a kicker zx750.1 with 4 gauge wiring. They are wired correctly. I checked the subs and found that one of the subs makes a scratching noise when i push it in. That might mean i blew a voice coil? Also note that they are not installed in a car. They are hooked up in my room with a marine battery lol. 4 guage wireing. The box is 4.6 cubes after displacement tuned to 37 hz with 65 sq.in. or port. I think the problem is either the sub or the power supply or the combination of both. Any help would be appreciated

1st ur not running 700 watts since ur runing 12volts. more like 500ish. and its a room. plop that in a car. cause my little 10 cvr pounds so i dont really know what else u could be doing wrong

The amps birthsheet came out at 886rms. Yeah that makes sense. Thanks:)

Your amps birth sheet is rated by 14.4v and a 4ohm or 2ohm constant load. Not even close under real conditions. danyman's estimate is close what the actual would be. Maybe even less. Your problem is likely power supply. Or just the huge room.

Even if the sub is scratchy when pushed on (which you shouldn't do, because thats how YOU damage them) it could still be fine. Check the impedance with a DMM to see if the coils are good.

Yeah so basically put them in a car and their fine.

if only i had a DMM

Buy one from Crappy tire or princess auto for cheap. Hell, someone you know must have a digit multimeter. I use to run my car stereo equipment in my house when I parked my summer car for the winter. It's always louder in the car. ;)

Turn your enclosure so it fires diagonally into a corner.

are you pushing straight down on the sub? coil rub is bad I hear, but if you're pushing on an angle my guess is you're making it worse by making it operate out of alignment.

Hey Paul, hows the Windstar holding up?

DeadlySones 02-02-2010 02:58 PM

Not bad, I've been trying to kick the crap out of my TF Ones & both them and the van, have held up very well so far. Can't wait for the new recones to come in. ;) Been working on eliminating rattles. lol :cheeky4:
