Cut Stock Wire Harness!
I was installing an aftermarket deck on my 01 Toyota Highlander and my friend thought it would be a good Idea to cut off the adapter on the Highlanders stock harness. Is there anyway I can attatch the 20pin connector back to the wires? Can I somehow get the wires back into it?
ya just solder it back together ( cutting the factory harness is the most stupidess thing someone can do ) sooo lol your frd shouldnt touch this kind of stuff anytime soon if he doesnt know what hes doing
I would make your friend pay for a new factory harness and get a car audio pro shop redo it properly with solder and heat shrink. The last thing you want is a fire inside your dash - Think about that!
I have done this before and will no doubt do it again. It really depends on you. If you want to try it yourself and have access to the proper tools and you have the abilities to do it, you can try. If you do not, take it to a shop and have them do it. Word to the wise, have a good shop repair the harness. Each pin gets taken out of the harness, new wire soldered onto the pin and onto the other side of the cut wire, adding about a 1" of length overall. Heatshrink the works, reinsert pin into molex. If you take the pin out of the molex and attach it directly to the old wire, you run the risk of the harness being too short and not reaching where it needs to. If you feel there is adequate length in the harness and can give up some, solder the pin to the cut wire.
