In Dash Car Pc! Any opinion???
I've been looking into this product for close to a year now and I thought that this is where in dash car audio will be heading - MP3, WIRELESS INTERNET, COMPUTING, GPS, BLUETOOTH, and more...What held me back from purchasing one then was because of the high value price ($1200USD). After doing several research, we now finally made a direct contact and have an opportunity to distribute it at a reasonable price (approx. $600CAN).
Now, someone would probably have a better opinion for this one... car pc
We could be the distributor or retailer for this product - that's why we needed your opinion.

Car PC's never seem to be designed for the car environment, too much vibration, heat/cold, impact, etc. Plus, you still need a screen for a few hundred bucks, you have to use the remote for most functions which is probably not very safe or convienent.
I personally am I long way away from ever buying a car PC. |

Thanks for your opinion. In case you haven't noticed, this unit has this features built in and developed:
"4 USB ports available Two channel audio output Microphone input Full-function remote control Anti-vibration design Anti noise design Special heat-elimination design" Now a days, you can get a good 7" touch screen for less than $200CAN. I mean, considering all other software possibilities such as (car diagnostic/performance interface, MS word editing or mobile office, games, tons of mp3 songs, other usb hardware interface, video surveillance recording in a vehicle, and more). Typical all in one touch screen dvd units are worth about $900 and up anyway plus its very limited features. Am pretty sure that there will always be some pros and cons about it but I personally think that this is where car audio unit is heading for the next century. |
The problem is they are out there for under $500 now and I agree with Newb. They always seem to break down. Also you can not use the internal sound card for music on highpowered systems due to noise so then you have to opt for an external USB soundcard that seperates the soundcard from noise like a Gigaport Ag which is about $200. I like your thinking though and if they would standup in the Canadian in car enviroments it may be worth taking a looking at. Even the ones built for it are flakey most of the time

I think this one looks really nice in terms of having a carPC. If I wanted one it seems to do a lot of what I might want it to.
Just to be realistic tho, anyone can put stuff like "special antivibration design" on a product, and that looks suspiciously like a slim DVD rom out of your average computer. I would want to see some people test the hell out of these to see if their claims are backed up by experience. I would actually love one of these to interface with my car tuner, run the video output to my alpine and control via a trackball... but no way can I justify 500 bucks when I can use my laptop. IMO, the technology is a few generations away from being mature. But, I think there's a good chance you'll see the big car audio companies going this way eventually. |
