Your a big fan of solen Dave, why wouldn’t I just put in an order over there on some scan speak driver and tweeters and save about 4 grand?

I would never have said this BUT you keep saying worth every penny? So are they really?
Hell of a 4000 dollar x over you have there ;)
Wonder how many by pass the x over altogether and go straight active.

A rose by any other name.

the solen peakers are totally different. i was skeptical like you so i went ahead and ordered a set of the 6" mids and rev tweeters from solen to compare. the speakers not only have radically different parameters, they also look very different. the crossovers do add a phenominal amount to the cost of the speakers, there is over 1000 x-over configurations on them, phase slope etc,and in alot of cases, actually every case that i have used them (3 times), i never used the x-overs. it definitley is a bummer that you cant just order the speakers from alpine without them but you cant i have sked many times. at kewl school i asked jason kemmerer(lead f#1 speaker designer who used to work for scanspeak) about the differences and he said that although they are both built off the same platforms, the cone on the 6" is very different and the vc and spider as well if you saw the 2 beside each other its very easy to tell. on the tweeter the phase plug and rear tuning chamber are different as well. so you can get a speaker simlilar to them, but not nearly the same. the tweeter was redesigned to have better off axis response and the ability to play at least 1/2 octave lower than the original revelator. i too would like to get the same speakers for cheaper, when i ordered them, 2 mids and 2 tweeter delivered to my door was 1200 canadian with tax, then i had to ship them back and pay a 10% restocking fee, but that was alright i wanted to know for myself and see it with my own eyes, and thats my story an im stickin to it. do the math, get speakers 1300, design and build passives on the order of the ones that come with the f#1 6"" set, 500 and thats very conservative if you factor in time, that 1800, now double it for retail, which is what msrp is, and what do you got 3499.95, right around f#1 retail, and you still havent marketed the sh!t out of it and put it in a pretty box, like i said worth every penny
