DD 9917 or 9915 Vs JL w7 13
which sub is better in terms of sq?? i know the dds will kill the w7 in spl.....cuz i currently have a w7 13, im not sure whethere i should replace it with the 9917 and i have 1600watts of clean power to give...so let me know
thanks |
Both in the proper enclosure will sound great. IMO, I prefer the 13w7 over the 9917 .... maybe the 9912 would be a better choice? Jordy can help you there. Take a look at the TREO Engineering SSX series of subwoofers. There is a competitor at USACi finals who uses one in a sealed enclosure in his DTS 5.1 setup.

^^ As Mark said, it's not exactly a fair comparison. First you're comparing a 13" sub to a 17". Second, you're comparing a sub made specifically to sound good whereas a DD is made to sound good, and be very loud.
With that much power and your goal of SQ I'd go with the W7. If you were comparing a 9912 to the W7 13 though it would be a bit more of a toss-up. Some people say the 99 series sounds 'dry', so it may not be to your liking. A better question to ask would be why you're looking at the 99 series. With that much power you're definitely over spending. The 95 or 35 series would be a much better choice. You really have to be careful with these sorts of things. Sometimes spending more money doesn't necessarily mean it's a better speaker for your application. |
Doesn't DD make a 9000 or 9100 series woofer that is geared as a SQ woofer?

you're right, DD's 9100 series is a pure sq woofer, I'm not sure of the SPL capabilities, but the sq is supposed to be awesome.

Don't rule out the DD 9515. I don't think 1600w will be enough for the 9900 series.

so it looks like it would make more sense for me to stay with my JLw7 13....then, instead of going through the hastle of gettin something new...
alright thanks a lot guys...for ur input..... |
I`m a SQ guy going out for SPL and I like the DD`s for both and everyone I know that has a listen likes the DD`s too.But the box is a thing that will make or break your SQ
