thinking of upgrading my Alpine 9811 to the Pioneer
DEH-P980BT or siblings with the 24bit burrbrown Dacs and the auto EQ/Time allignemnt

Any feedback on this deck?

Well I have the 7800mp which is almost identical except it doesnt have bluetooth. I Dont care for it at all. I bought it to replace my old faithfull 4 year old Kenwood Excelon 859 that was in the shop getting fixed. And I am taking it back for a refund.

I find it has a fairly steep learning curve to get it dialed in. But then again, this was my first go arround with any sort of equalization on my system. If you like to tinker, and dont like to listen to mp3 cd's on random. It may suit your needs. But for me I am sticking with Kenwood.

I have a deh740MP and an Alpine 9811. both are ok to learn
but your 7800 does not have time alignemnt nor auto eq or auto time allignment. compared ot the 980BT!

Those are the features I would like to hear about and the general sound quality with the burr brown DACs

if your gonna go with pioneer go with premier 880prs , it has every thing you need for good sq , it's cheaper , and has a more transparent sound . look it up at least , it has more features than I care to type out .

I would think that the 880 and 980 have identical audio sections. Why do you say the 880 is more um "transparent" ?

I had both within a 2 week period .the 980 sounded way too warm , too thick in the upper mids . It also sounded like it was slurring the highs a bit .

Just a quick note, if the 980bt is warmer than the 880, and you're running DLS tweeters (which are pretty warm to begin with, but sound amazing... I love DLS) then I'd definitely go with the 880.

I'll be running all DLS this year (once I can get my amps, thanks Kankar!!)

a better option than the onboard processing would be to get the 880, and something like an alpine APX-H700 or APX H-701 and controller. much more flexibility and much more powerful.

thanks for the feedback May just stick to my current alpine 9811 and add an APX unit next year... bit by bit!
