distortion when turned up or bass is used
I have a scdbta60 scosche radio it is a nice radio with bluetooth phone calling and such. I like the radio a lot but im not a big radio Ive always had fast vehicles with a decent radio well here lately Ive wanted better sound quality not like thousand dollar system quality but nice clear quality and i may add a small sub later on but right now i hear a distortion when my radio is turned up especially a song with any bass.
"Sound Output Mode: Stereo Controls: Volume, treble, bass, fader, balance, loudness Max Output Power / Channel Qty: 40 Watts x 4 Additional Features: Flip-down console, ID3 tags support, iPod/iPhone ready, smartphone remote controlled, built-in microphone Continuous Power / Channel Qty: 15 Watts x 4 Amplifier Output Details: 15 Watt - 4 Ohm - THD 1.0% - 14.4V DC - 4 channel(s) that is my radio specs is that decent? seems like the watts may be low to me but i am unsure. I have the matching scosche speakers and the front "6.5" speakers get distorted with even the smallest amount of bass i keep the bass at -4 and it still happens sometimes. im wondering is it the radio or is it the speakers? Scosche 6.5" HD Series 3-Way Car Speaker: 6" woofer 250 Watts max (50 Watts RMS) per pair 0.6" tweeter HD speakers front speakers^^^ 3-way 150 watts max (30 watts RMS) rear speakers^^^ thanks in advance |
worth looking into an amp for your speakers, also check to see if you have a hpf feature on your deck (high pass filter) this will allow you to stop the bass being sent to the speakers. if you want more bass look into a sub. also worth setting the eg on the headunit to flat and turning the loud feature off.

im not looking for more bass really. i would just like to turn my radio up without having to put my bass on -4 or -6 lol i think ive narrowed it down to bad front speakers

As was already said, you need an amp to drive the speakers. This will liven EVERYTHING up quite a bit and shouldn't distort. There's always the possibility you may need better speakers after the amp as well, but that's where I would start. |
well its only the fronts that distort

^set your hpf correctly
|
this scosche head unit doesnt have any hpf settings or i would do that
|
are you sure it doesn't have them in a hidden menu or something? what model is it? if it doesn't and you are sure (and have had a read of the deck manuel to confirm) i'd say your best bet is to either get a better deck or an amp that has a hpf built in.
