Do I need a Sub?
#1
hi all..
new to the forum..just curious if i needed a sub or not with this configuration
i am running a Kenwood kdc528 headunit with an ipod adapter. FS: components type s 6 1/2 alpines. RS: Pioneer A1671..I have amped all speakers with an Alpine MRP F240...
the sound is really crisp and clean..but it seems to be lacking a bit of punch...i was thinking of amping fronts and a type e sub? do you think this would add the extra punch i need? Would i be underpowering a type e sub by using the F240 amp?

Only you can know if you need more bass. As for over and under powering; you can bridge 2 channels for 100watts to the sub and run the other 2 channels in stereo at 2 ohm for 50x2 rms or 25 watts into each of the 4 speaks. From my experience, this will give you very nice sound that is reasonably loud, again it all dpends on what your preferences are. also, you could use your deck's amp to power the rear fill speaks and use the F240's front channels to drive your front speaks with 40x2. Let your ears decide.
