haven't played it on a system yet, but I'm guessing it's got a lot of sub-acoustics going on that you can't hear through headphones?

funny you should mention the metal, my stereo has the hardest time with one particular In Flames album, it seriously just throws a fit! hahaha i dont even bother trying with it anymore!
