(Rear speakers should never be allowed to operate in full range unless you are going for the THX or Dolby Digital AC-3 theater surround sound setup. If you have a separate subwoofer, band-limit the signal going to the rear speakers to approximately between 200Hz and 3kHz.
To wring out some negative side effects, the rear speakers should be in mono. Put the two speakers in series and bridge them across the amplifier.
You are going to be running it low-volume, band-limited and in mono, (it is important that you keep it low-volume, band-limited and in mono). )

I read this and thought I'd give it a try, but I would like to see what you think first.
Reason is, I drive an '03 Dakota ext. cab (previously had a '93 Dak. ext. cab) and I noticed that the rear quarters produce real nice midbass. Even with 6.5's in the doors and fully dynomatted, the rear speakers midbass was much better. So, maybe I'll give this set-up a shot if I here enough positive feed back.

Well kinda but no, In both my rides I do use "rear fill". Both are used for mid bass fill. Both use some sorta sub. And both have the higher freq. cut of either through no tweets or just cut of at the source.

So use it for extra mid bass. As per mono I can't respond for certian because I've never done this. It sounds great in therory yet I'n not sold on it.

Sub bass is in mono ect but is that true for mid bass. I most systems it's that mid bass that so hard to reproduce truly. What may work for one may not work for another. Try it and tell us your results.

sound is subjective and there are lots of interesting things you can do with an extra set of speakers and some processing; so there is really no right answer IMO....

rears in a car can make the stage seem larger but ideally everything over 300-500hz or so should be coming from infront of you depending on the size of the speakers and their distance from you....

Id agree most ppl should probably stick with midbass only, but I don't see why it should necassarilly be mono.. it might not matter much for midbass but over 500hz Id say you'd be better off going stereophonic.....

last time I checked, these are my f**king ears...I'll decide if rear speakers sound good or not in my ride!

As far as my opinion on rear speakers; I've tried with, without, limited bandwith, mid bass only, tweeters only, rear center channel, mono, etc... and I always go back to full range rears in stereo. As far as i'm concerned, it still sounds the best...with standard installations.

Ouch Veeman.And yes your right you can only truly have an opion for your ears. Like there yours. The sound you desire is what you get in your ride is very true. Now more back to the original question.

If the higher range of notes/ sound comes from behind you then your "surrounded" by the sound. Yet the last live performance the group was before me. So I'm with you ( Veeman ) on the complete sound like as if I was taking a walk and had the forest making it's sounds around me.

So the problem is what sound are we trying to reproduce here. To get the music related sound we image as much as we can forward of the listener creating a life like stage. The higher end notes image more distinctly than say 25hz from your sub. The higher the notes coming from behind you the more the stage moves back. The problem arises trying to create the mid bass sounds. These are the ones most of us truly enjoy being bass junkies. So for truer music we try to image forward as posible. For movies we need to be encompased in sound.

I've done like you have all I can yet allways come back to my before mentioned set ups. Both opionions are corect yet wrong. Welcome to SQ.
