Do you need an amp to run alpine type S or R speakers
Hi guys, I have a Toyota Celica 1997.
I have a Sony DAB headunit (52w)http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-sony-cdx-dab6650_p-21492.htm My Plan To buy Alpine 6.5" Component speakers for the front doors only. I will keep the original Toyota standard speakers for the back. Now I am thinking about Alpine Type S or Type R speakers. I have heard that Type R speakers may require an amp to get the maximum quality sound and loudness. Is this true? What about type S speakers? Does it also require an amp? Type R http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-...17s_p-22579.htm Power Specification Peak Power: 330W RMS Power: 110W Frequency Response: 65Hz - 27kHz Sensitivity: 87dB, 1W/1m Installation Diameter: 136mm Depth: 59mm Type S http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-...71a_p-20255.htm 6-1/2"(16.5cm DIN) Component 2-Way Speaker Peak Power 250W RMS Power 50W Frequency Response: 35Hz - 30kHz Spoke Design Grill System Multi Layered Cone Wave Guide Linear Drive Magnet 1" soft Dome Tweeter With Installation Kit External Crossover With Tweeter Protection Lightweight Air-Injected Rubber Edge Neodymium Tweeter Magnet Custom Fit Spacer Nomex Spider Thanks |
Im running Type R 6.5" components up front and 6.5" coaxials in the rear. Running off the deck, they sound pretty good. They REALLY need to be turned up loud to get them moving. Definately going to amplify them with 100 watts rms or so.

you don't need an amp for either set. It is always preferable to use an amp though.

I would suggest an amp, you'll get cleaner sound and your moneys worth from the speakers if you do.
|
Well, if you end up powering them with a deck, then S is a waaay better choice. A lot more sensitive and makes a better factory replacement.

What about that big difference in low-end frequency response??

amp or no no amp doesn't change the characteristic of the sound. with a head unit though you'll be getting distortion alot earlier on.

the deck just cant produce the lows or the very highs with the limited range that the deck amp has at any volume level you will here an improvement with an amp so go for an amp as soon as possible !:) |
