Do you think I got ripped off?

The only reason I ask is because after I bought the stuff I asked the guy a question about doing the 'big 3'. He said you would never need to upgrade the battery-> alt wire, just the battery->ground.
In his defense, he said its because the alt(stock) can only put out so much current, that the stock wire would be enough to accommodate it.
He also said pioneer was way better for the price then Morel, and focal. (he is the owner of the shop, and said he ran all 3 for about ~6 weeks)

Anyways, I bought a deck install kit, wire harness, and 60+ feet of over size 14 awg (I measured it at ~2mm diameter [awg wiki says thats 12awg])
for $106 after tax. I think the wire was $0.89/foot

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

the most crucial part of the big 3 is the positive run from alt to batt. its always great having oversized engine block and chassis grounds, but they arent the wires that charge your battery(s).

But then again, they are, cause they are part of the complete circuit. You can put a 000wg cable on the positive side, and your current is still only as strong as the tiny wire on the negative side. In other words, your current flow is only as strong as the weakest link.

I agree that if dont want to do the big3, then at least do the negative on the battery with the same size wire as the positive - again complete circuit theory. Come on jalat, lay off the booze :)

Using the same mentality, Pyle is also way better than Pioneer for the price. Just some people have decided than there ears are worth more than Pyle, and some decided they want better than Pioneer, and so on. To those who dont care about sound that much, or do not know what to listen for and how much improvement is worth to them, are catered lower priced units, but I believe that the more expensive units are pricier for good reasons. That is why there are price brackets. If you pay $1000 for a pair of components, and they may sound all that to you, a $2000 pair may not provide enough improvement to put out the extra doe, and that is $1000 more, but if you want to save $600, but go in the opposite direction, you may hate the sound of a $400 product in comparison to your $1000 unit. I think bang for buck is more geared towards people on lower budgets, who like to dwell over dimes and quarters, but if you are spending $2000, a $2500 price tag is not that much of a stratch. Whatever, this is all bs, sorry lol I had some extra time.

especially since in 12v automotive, electrons flow negative to positive so how important is the ground??? ................hes concerned about current and using 14 gauge wire????? i just put a fire hydrant in the back of my car , and am currently using a garden hose to provide water to it...................PIONEER IS BETTER THAN MOREL??????:appl: hahahahahahaahaha:cheeky4: :stroke: or FOCAL??????? is the shop owner a deaf alcoholic?? in my shop we have all three lines....every time i wipe my ass it says pioneer on the paper .....bang for buck is morel by far....tonal response is focal hands down......does this shop sell morel or focal???? or is the owner motivated by the brands he sells???

Njord 08-17-2009 10:13 PM

btw, the 14 awg has nothing to do with the 'big 3'. Its what I'm going to use as speaker wire for my Morel hybrid ovation set. mmmm, cant wait to get them.

on the subject of the thread, does anyone think I got ripped off for what I got? (speaker wire, dashkit, wireharness)
Whats the going price for those things? (on ebay the daskit/wireharness is about $50 shipped. so I paid the same at this store)

He said (like I did above) that he tried both pioneer, morel, focal, in his car for 6 weeks each. he said the pioneer was the best by far(for the price?). I'm not sure which models he was comparing, but he pointed out the pioneer set. I cant remember which it was, but it was only rated for 50WRMS. When I saw that I stopped looking...
