Hi all, i've been browsing the forum for quite a while, i've learned alot of really useful stuff for some of the vets on here.

I recently purchased a 2004 Acura Tl with Navi package. It comes with a 6 speaker package, and has a tiny 8inch subwoofer mounted in the back, right underneath the rear windshield. The bass in my car is pretty bad, and when i do turn it up, the rear panel (holding the sub) shakes loudly.

What i want to do, is keep the head unit, and all the speakers (except the 8inch sub, which i will disable) and add and amp and some woofers in the trunk. I'm looking for some real good quality products, that will sound GREAT, deep bass, that i can push into a block party if i have to My budget is 1000 flat.

I spoke to some salespeople at a local car audio shop in Montreal, it seems like a great place. I was initially planning on getting atleast 2 subs (maybe 2 10’s or 2 12’s)

This is what the shop owner suggested:

Apline Amp: V-power amplifier. MRP M350, class D mono amp, 350W X 1RMS

Alpine Type R pre-loaded box: SBR 122CR 12 inch compound reflex Subwoofer system.

The price comes out to 1000plus tax, it seems a bit high to me. Am I getting a good deal? I want something that will sound amazing! Maybe someone could suggest another setup? Or do any of you know good places in Montreal that I should visit. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:
I just checked www.lespacs.com under audio-visuel put in the word sub and came up with a bunch of adds for used stuff in Montreal. I would give this a try. This is the definitive website for used goods in Que.

Don't buy new - it's not worth it.

for example I picked this off of www.lespacs.com

Buying used can be a bargian, but there will be no warranties, obviously buying new can be worth it.

Anyways that does seem a bit high for that product, right now alot of shops should be clearing out last years product and you should be able to find some better prices.

And about $70-$100 for install and you would be set.

So there is an example. You could find some less expensive stuff but this stuff would "push into a block party if i have to "

There are lots of options out there avaliable to you. The price for what was quoted does seem a bit high in my oppinion. The Alpine gear is good quality stuff, but there is better out there.

What sort of music do you listen to?

Is trunk space a concern?

Is the installation going to be done professionally, or will this be a DIY project?

Why not buy a used JBL BP1200.1... (you can pick that up for ~400-500CAD around here in Classifieds).

See if you can match that up with a supersub like an Inhuman, Brahma, or something from RE or something like that... (~$300-600... depending on if it's new or used)

Stick that into a ported box tuned low (which would cost $40 at most to build yourself)

Interesting commentary from a 'business owner' who just last week wanted advice on opening an audio shop...

Thanks for all the advice guys, I will start looking to buy some used equipement.

Lemonlime: I listen to mostly hiphop and reggae, trunk space is a concern, but i'm really hoping to get deep rich bass, without rattling my whole car.

I'll also take a look at that JBL amp. The installation has to be flawless, as this is a company car, and i will have to give it back in 3 years. So i will have a professional installation done.

BTW, how much would a typical installation of this type be?
thanks again for all the help.

sorry to burst your bubble, but that is just what bass does, it rattles your car, even my computer sound system rattles the walls in my room if I have it loud enough...
