"don't put x-overs in the doors"!!!
Guys,
I just installed 2 pairs of pheonix gold components in the front and rear doors of my ford taurus about 1 month ago. I put the crossovers that came with the kit inside the doors. I thought they would be alright because the weather stripping, etc was in good shape. The woofers and tweets were alright, but the x-overs were starting to corode, and had water dripping out of them! Luckily i was able to clean them up and dry them up, with no apparent damage. I was lucky! Do what i should have done the first time. Put the x-overs in the rear of the car!( hatch or trunk) |
that's common sense, no? why would you put them there in the first place?

good 2 know, thank u sir.

ive heard of covering them in a plastic bag also.
|
good advice to not install them in the door
|
doors are not meant to be watertight. brandnew cars have water in the doors. dont put crossovers in the doors. even between the door panels and door is gonna oxidize them quick
|
ive seen cars with water in the door. but for the odd reason my van never has water in the door. and no water means no rust in future :D if i would put it in the doors tho i would seal them up with silicone

dude, your supposed to install them on the "dry" sde of the vapor barrier :). if your car no longer has a vapor barrier then you can wrap the crossover in plastic. If it's your own car and you haeve the time, it's always better to run new wires into the doors. Some doors this is behond a DIY guy to do. in which case.. see above.

As for plastic bags, they are for shipping and groceries, crossovers can and DO get HOT! (heat& cold make condensation) Take the extra 15 minutes and run separate cable to both woofer and tweeter, avoid factory wiring, they can and will be a cause for problems later, especially with high power. besides, it will sound better. |
