Drivers door got hit
 

so my drivers door got hit pretty bad by a truck and now I hear a scratchy sound from the components (cant tell if its the 4" or the 6.5") that i dont think was there before...any idea if an accident could have caused this?....or how to check if the speaker is toast? does insurance cover this?....also, anyone know if insurance covers the custom work on the doors (fiberglass, deadener, plexi)...thanx for any advice in advance.

you need to go to your insurance place and ask
i know in bc if it is ripped off it do ont fall under a bas plan and in something like $15 for a $100 of cost i think but if you are hitt and you are in the 100% in the right thay need to redo it

it's entirely possible that something was damaged.
i would pull the panel off and check the speakers for physical damage.

as for insurance, it depends on the company.
some companies cover whatever is in the car in your coverage.
others like state farm, (at least my branch) require you to submit aftermerket stuff, especially stereo related stuff, in order to be insured. you need receipts and stuff to prove how much it would cost to replace. yadda yadda

And as far as the damage, for sure, if you got hit pretty hard... Speakers aren't meant to be hammered on.

Thanx for the quick replies, my insurance company has all my serial numbers and copies of receipts, problem is i spent 3 months doing up my doors not to mention the cost of the JL XR 3 ways,and i just dont have the desire to do it agin just cuz someone wasnt looking where they were going :( and yeah i was %100 not at fault, as i was parked...lol...sitting in the car having a smoke and the durango was backing out of his driveway, i guess an intrepid isn't big enough to see!!...thanx again.

they should definitly cover it then
did you do the install yourself? get a quote from an audio shop telling how much it would cost to redo and insurance SHOULD pay to fix it all

i went for a long drive and sat in a driveway and then saw you ........NO NO i live in bc and i do have a durango but how bad did the durango look after he hit you

well my door is totaled, even the frame is bent and creased.....i think the durange MAY have a one inch scratch on the bumper (easy buff out)...lol

yeah i did the install myself, i guess the pictures i took during each step might help.

when i made a claim, they sent me to thier 'authorized' install shop.
Since my system was 2 yrs old, they took off 40% (yup, 20% per year is right, audio equipment is worth 0 after 5 years)
They included install, although i didn't have a reciept because i did it myself.

I had to re-do everything they did, and they warranty replaced the speakers they hooked up wrong.

Bottom line was insurace paid 4,600 I paid 1,000, but that included damage to door, dash and trunk from the break in.

Found out later that i didn't have to go to thier authorized shop. That is a scam. I could have gone to the shop of my choice.
