dvc only one vc working?

i read my RF today and it came up as 2.5 ohms one side, and 0 the other. does that mean my one side is screwed? what can i do besides recone? can i run one coil? prolly not. thanx in advance...

worldind 02-10-2008 05:12 PM

Check to see if the tinsel leads are intact on the blown side. If one of them is broken you may be able to rig up a fix. If they aren't the problem, then just run the other voicecoil. If and when that one gives out, then recone or get a new sub.

ill recone its a power hx2, and i dont wanna get rid of it. as far as i can see its not the tinsels, should i cut the power back from the 1000rms its rated for with one coil?

worldind 02-10-2008 05:19 PM

Will you be able to deliver that power with the new ohm load the sub will present? I'd say go ahead and give it what you can. The debate rages on about whether running a DVC sub on one coil makes a difference or not, but I think the only disadvantage you'll have is no more flexibility for wiring at different loads.

ok cool man and ya gt an amp to support it. ill try it

bodar 02-12-2008 10:12 AM

im still kinda wondering about this, any one else have an opinion on this matter? i have a recone for the sub so thats not really the issue, was just wondering what is supposed to happen? You have one coil, right? SVC has one lead into that coil? DVC has two leads into that coil? would that mean that you CAN run one coil and the tinsel leads just cant support the power of two? Im trying to master my nooBix cube.... lol

and i just noticed this, i live like 20 minutes away from you worldind. in devon, just south of edmonton. got any stuff fer sale locally? lol, gotta ask......

let me guess. the sub was a dual 2 ? u ran the amp at 1 ohm?

yah u can run just the one coil, it will get half the power cuz now your sub is just a 2 ohm sub. nothing bad will happen, it will be exactly half as loud and in the end it will blow, not because its only one coil but because of distortion when you keep crankin it tryin to get it to be as loud as before (which wont happen no matter what you do).

so you can either have it reconed, or you can use your amp at 2 ohm and get half the power out of it.

bodar 02-12-2008 01:13 PM

i ran it at 1ohm, 1200watts rms. but i do have an amp that puts out 1000 rms @ 2ohms. what kinda diffrence am i looking at here?

Father Yuli 02-12-2008 01:34 PM

hook up the 2 ohm amp and go for it. eventually the sub will die but you might as well kill it since its half dead anyways.
