Dynamat alternative - Lastobond Pro?
 

Anyone used the Lastobond Pro at Rona? Price is right at $119 for a 65ft roll... it's 40mil, bitumen based with a fiberglass mat...

3" tall roll. That's $7 a square foot. That's according to Ronas site, but everywhere I look it's 3 feet by 65'. $0.61 sounds a little better.

Cheap enough for me to try it. I've actually been looking around for a sound deadener alternative that I can get locally. This would be the first.

I checked it on Ronas site I wonder if it would stick good on the doors ?

As long as it's clean I see no reason it wont.

I think I am going to go to Rona this weekend to check this stuff out.

Reminds me of my days when I used "Peel N Seal". Its about the same as this lastobond stuff, I regret ever buying it because it just would fall off and it smelled so bad. It worked great for its intended use but its not durable enough for a 40+deg car sitting in the sun all day.
100% coverage has been tested as unnecessary and a waste, go with a higher quality butyl based deadener and you will be happier in the long run. There are many alternatives to Dynamat that are not only cheaper but better.

I'm all for do-it-yourself styled audio treatment if they do the job right.

I have tried 2 different kinds of home repair roofing materials in the past. On the plus side, the rolls were cheap and they did do the job of mass-loading and dampening vibrations on metal surfaces. On the negative side is the poor adhesive longevity of the stuff on any surface where gravity works against it staying up! The stuff does melt in high temperature, and tends to produce black slimy run-off.

If I could not afford "real" sound deadener, I would only use roofing products in areas such as the rear trunk spare tire areas or under the floor carpet only. I wouldn't use any inside doors, overhead, or on any vertical surface... that's just going to create a huge mess when the HOT weather gets to it.

I have used a cheaper alternative to Dynamat such as B-Quiet Ultimate and their previous product called Brown-Bread. The stuff offers great performance improvements over just having a little bit of expensive Dynamat in the car.

If you factor all the time and effort put into doing a good install, I would rather get the real stuff... but maybe that's just my way of thinking about it.
