Earthquake subs?

Hi all,

I changed to a regular cab truck and now my plans for my new set up have to change. Went to the local audio shop and he recommended 2 10" Earthquake DBXi-10's (rated 250w RMS) in a ported box (about .8 cuf/sub).

This is run off an Alpine MRD-1005 ( tested power 1062w @ 2 ohm)

I have 4 questions.

1. Are these subs decent for SQ /tightness? I know the line has won some major SPL Comps but i'm looking for quality with the masive bass.

2. Is it safe to run these subs at 500 watts each? This seems like waaay too much power, but the saleman assured me they would be fine.

3. will my truck put out 14.4 volts when its running and 12 v when off like the salesman said it would?

4. Should I seal the box since it's probobly too small to run ported?

the subs are $175 each so they seem like an OK deal. Thanks.

The salesman said that it is alright to send 100% more power than the sub is rated for and you will be fine? I think not. A deal is only as good as the product and how it is matched together, in this case, really piss poor match based on your post thus far, so the deal is not a deal at all.

Why is it that salespeople just sell things for the sake of selling things and not matching things up properly.....

(1) more dependent on the box and what you think is good sound. Can they be loud, sure, is there louder and in my opinion better sounding, definitely.

(2) Uh, no

(3) Yes unless the altenator is shot.

(4) A sealed box is always a safer bet than a improperly ported box of the wrong volume with way too much power.

Yeah doubling the RMS rating didnt sound right at all.

Thanks for your opinion

where did you go becasue at urbin audio and video the salesman said it was ok to put 200Wrms through some 90W max rated jensen's. it said right on the box lol.
