Eclipse HU Problem
My Eclipse 8053 has crapped out on me. It began yesterday and it seems to be in the CD mechanism. The unit would cut in and out, not turn off or skip but instead the sound would just start and stop for a second or two. I swapped CD's thinking maybe there was a problem with one and then it just stopped altogether. The last time it gave an display message of "Info 3" and now when you insert a CD it just attempts to read it, fails, and ejects it with no display message.
This is my first Eclipse and it's been faithful for the year or so that I've owned it. Anyone have any ideas? I don't have the manual so I don't know what the "info 3" errer message means either. The tuner works just fine it is strictly a problem reading CD's. Thanks folks. |
i have one like that and that is why i got my alpine
i had mine sent out but i think the shop placed it in a bin for a lot time then said it is ok billed me to have them place it in my dash i think thay thought i was going to just buy a new one form them F-that so that is why i whent with alpine |
And that has what to do with his question?????
The laser sled is either out of alignment or there is a issue with the laser itself. Chris at S&S Electronics is the only authorized Eclipse repair depot in Canada, drop him a PM and he can let you in on exactly what needs to be done. |
i had a sony deck (yeah i know, crap) but this one was really good to me actually, and after a year or so of driving down the shittiest streets you have ever seen, the rail started to deform on me too,
hey rob is there any way to stop something like this from happening, where the lazer mechanism craps out, other then buying an sd card HU? |
Laser sleds get out of alignment all the time, it is something that moves and has a suspension for the entire mechanism. Just like a cars alignment, sometimes it needs to be reset. No cd player line I have ever dealt with is immune to this. I have seen laser mechanism's burn out as well, just plain tired out from use, again, just like a car tire has had it's day as well.

yeah true, so would you say the next big thing is conna be the sd card hu's?

I had that error message on a different Eclipse HU and it came down to me to buy another one. I was quoted about 250+/- to fix it. I paid 325 for a 8053 and im a happy camper.

Thanks folks. I bought this unit slightly used and got a great price of $275 shipped for it so it's not too big of a cost problem but I was quite pleased with the unit itself so..............
I have been eyeing a Pioneer 880PRS which is likely what will get the nod if the Eclipse is not cost effective to repair. |
Eclipse Hu
The cost to get that fix is somewhere around $100- 150 (parts and labour). As what ROB noted, a possibility that laser needs to be replace but we would normally replaced the whole mech assy. If you would like to drop it off, we can definitely have it check for free just to make sure that it's actually the lens.

Not to hijack the thread (since it's about a different model), but since the issue with the original model has been addressed, I figured I would post mine instead of making a new thread.
With my 8443, the subs make a popping noise every once in a while when the deck starts up. The deck has been replaced at the vendor's expense, but to no avail, same problem. Is that a factory defect? / Is it fixable? |
