electrical problems

k i just installed my system yesterday with a powerbass 3000d and an 18 fi bl wiyth two runs of 0 gauge wiring, made by two diff. manufacteurers. now heres the problem i turned everything on and the bass is hitting very low i mean lower then my speakers the only reason i know its on is because when i put my hand on the cone i can feel it, and the lights dim VERY bad after every note, 100x more then it did when i had my old battery and only one run of 0 guage. please any help is appreciated

Make sure you dont have the coils on the sub wiered out of phase with each other.

kyle_nelner4 06-05-2008 04:37 PM

how would you do this and would it cause the large dips in my electrical system?
the sub is dual 2 and its wired down to 1 ohm

Father Yuli 06-05-2008 04:57 PM

so no bass but voltage dips?

disconnect the sub from the amp and see if it still dips. if it does that still then you have bad wiring somewhere, maybe a short on the power/ground wire somewhere.

my educated guess would be bad ground at the battery, hence the voltage drop and no output from the amp.

where in ontario are you exactly?

yah im located in windsor and your saying the wire is shorted o does that mean the wire that is currently in place is no good? and if so how did i cause this to happen

Father Yuli 06-05-2008 07:45 PM

im just taking guesses here. its hard to tell what it is exactly. my suggestion is take it to someone who knows what they are doing (not saying you dont) and get them to look at it.

it could be a number of things. i would probably pull it all out and redo it.

are you sure the sub is wired correctly? the amp is not broken? there are no shorts in the wire? and the ground at the battery is good?

kyle_nelner4 06-05-2008 07:48 PM

yah im not really too sure if i have a shorted wire, but im kinda starting to think i am siince the tips of it was black and crispy when i pulled it out of my old fuse holder so how do i know if its shorted and what would casue this?

Father Yuli 06-05-2008 07:49 PM

measure the voltage at the amp with a multimeter. see what it starts with and what it drops to when you play music.

kyle_nelner4 06-05-2008 08:13 PM

ok and then what does the voltage reading tell me? if its the same the wires good but if not then its bad? and if so what wire would be bad

Father Yuli 06-05-2008 08:15 PM

it will all depend on what the voltage actually is. what it is before the bass hits and what it drops to when the bass hits.

if you are getting 12.5v or less with the car on i'd say there is something really bad in your wiring. any of the wires could be bad. ground could have a bad connection, or your positive could be lose at the fuse or something.
