Ok, so I have an Eclipse SW8200 subwoofer, it's rated at 670 watts rms at 4 ohms. I was told that the JL Audio 500/1 is a good amplifier for this application. Only thing is, is that the JL Audio 500/1 is only rated at 500 watts. But was told that it can still push the subwoofer with no problems at all, because the amps are very modestly rated (as I was told).

Do you think, that this is a good amplifier for my subwoofer, and would I get all the bass out of my subwoofer.

Also I am getting the JL Audio brand new for $500, so it's a good deal.

 

on your sub you are looking at max power that the maker thinks would be good
on your amp you are looking at what the amp is hoping to make (the low end amps may not hit there # and some hit over there # (if i tested that amp it will hit over {500 +)
this set up would word fine

Thanks, yea I got a very good deal on it, on the black color JL Audio 500/1. Do you have personal experience with this amplifier, I would also like to hear from more people who have this amplifier powering a higher rated subwoofer.

i had a jl250/1 deff. put out more then rated.."upgraded" to a 600 rms kicker amp and barely noticed the diff...so i think u will be happy

 

I have the 500/1 and get plenty of bass out of the setup I have.

I would really like to see how a power limited amplifier puts out more power than it is rated....

It is a good amp, matter of fact a great amp. The rms power handling of the sub is also a guideline, with many people running less power into them and some running more power into them. In your case, you need to determine if you want to run the system to it's full potential or not. A deal it may be, but, if the application for the deal is not correct, it is not such a good deal at all. I like deals as well, I like them when they are right for the application. You need to consider all options on the table and then choose carefully. You got a amazing deal on that sub, the bad part about that sub is that it is that much harder to match a amp to it as far as the power ratings go.

A amp that does not have a fully regulated power supply would be a ideal amp in this application as if the voltage is there on the input stages, the amp is going to make more power than rated. A regulated power supply, when it hits max, that is it that is all. Sort of like hitting the governor on your engine, even though the speedo says it will do 240 km/h, the governor stops it at 180 km/h.

 

x2 that is sales hype it is an amp that puts out it rated power (which is a good thing)

this is a relatively low power application that shouldnt over-tax your electrical system. Still the JL is a fine piece and it works well.

dont worry too much about speaker ratings

you have jl in your signature but you seem to know very little about it

first of jl is netorious for concervativley rating there equipment
second weither a amp is highly regulated or not
there is a limit to the power it will produce
nothing magic here
use it for what it is
jl amp will always give as much if not more power than there rated for that is a guarantee
that not alot of the strike by lightning amps can say
